Movie Locations To Inspire Your Next Holiday

The beauty of cinema lies in its special ability to completely transport an audience to different worlds and realities, making them feel right inside the movie. This is something noted eloquently by the late New York Times film critic Vincent Canby; "Through the magic of motion pictures, someone who's never left Peoria knows the softness of a Paris spring, the colour of a Nile sunset [and] the sorts of vegetation one will find along the upper Amazon." Whether caught up in a thrilling crime drama or lost in a galaxy far, far away, cinema can make viewers forget about reality and fully embrace a different realm of possibilities. This is perhaps one of the greatest gifts that cinema has bestowed on us - the power of storytelling, where almost anything can happen.

During the pandemic, when many of us were made housebound and confined to our homes due to strict government restrictions and lockdowns, all we had to abate the boredom was film and television. Now that the Covid-era has ended, many of us are primed and ready to explore the locations that inspired these productions. From the sunny climes of California to the rolling hills of Ireland, there is something out there for every traveller.

Following the conclusion of the movie award season with last week's Oscars, travel enthusiasts all over the world are now indulging in thoughts of exploring the stunning destinations seen throughout the year's biggest films. With the Oscars now over, pack your bags for a rollicking cinematic exploration and start planning your next picture-perfect vacation today!

So, lights, camera, action!

The Banshees of Inisherin (Ireland)

Ireland takes the stage in Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Kerry Condon. Set on a remote island off Ireland's coast, the black tragicomedy serves as a political allegory for Ireland's troubles during the Irish Civil War. The film follows Pádraic (Farrell), whose lifelong bond with Colm (Gleeson) is put to an unexpected end. Desperate to repair the damage, Pádraic sets out with his sister (Condon) and a troubled young islander, determined to find a solution. As Colm's resolve remains steadfast, some shocking consequences unfold. With ambiguous themes and beautiful cinematography, The Banshees of Inisherin bridges Ireland's past struggles with its future progress.

One of Ireland's greatest cinematic successes of the past year, The Banshees of Inisherin, has been capturing imaginations and awards across the world, garnering nine nominations. With its strong performances and stunning cinematography, audiences may find themselves seeking out Ireland's beautiful scenery and talent used in the film. You may find yourself asking, 'where is Inisherin?' after finishing the film. If you are struggling to find the island on a map, then do not panic; your geography skills are working just fine because Inisherin is a fictional island off Ireland's West Coast. For any Ireland enthusiast or movie lover, The Banshees of Inisherin brings Ireland's wild northwestern coast and its stunning coastal locations alive with unparalleled authenticity.

Ireland's West Coast has something to offer for everyone, particularly those who wish to explore "Inisherin". If you are an outdoor enthusiast, there is no better place than Slieve League Cliffs, located on the Southwest coast of County Donegal. Home to some of Europe's highest sea-facing cliffs, Slieve League, is a must-visit destination with magnificent views of Donegal Bay and the Sligo Mountains - just be sure to check the weather before you go. For centuries, this stunning location has been a place of Christian pilgrimage as well as a port for Monks en route to Iceland.

However, there is more to Ireland's West Coast than rugged mountains and stunning views. Sligo Town, situated in Ireland's northwest region, awaits all visitors and invites them to explore its myriad of pedestrian streets with small independent shops waiting at each corner. Those who wander deeper into the connection between Ireland and County Clare will delight in the traditional music and dancing that follows, as Irish folk music nights ('trad sessions' or "céilidh") live on in local pubs. For those wanting a more laid-back visit, Ireland has no shortage of Saturday markets, with Beltra Country Market, Benbulben Craft Village Farmers Market, Sligo Farmers Market, and Sligo Flea Market providing excellent opportunities to discover traditional Ireland in a friendly local atmosphere.

Aftersun (Turkey)

This year at the Oscars, Ireland had a foot firmly placed in the spotlight. Not only has The Banshees of Inisherin done incredibly well, but the country's rising star Paul Mescal received his first Oscar nomination for his emotional performance in Aftersun. The film follows Sophie, an 11-year-old Scottish girl who is vacationing with her dad at a Turkish resort on the eve of his 31st birthday.

The primary location for the film is Ölüdeniz, a resort town situated in Fethiye on Turkey's southwest coast. Ölüdeniz provides a picturesque escape for British holidaymakers. With its crystal blue waters, sandy beaches, and stunning surroundings, it is not hard to see why this resort town is popular amongst vacationers. But this destination offers more than just beach relaxation; there is something for every type of holidaymaker. Whether it's getting your adrenaline pumping with paragliding or experiencing the deep sea with scuba diving, Ölüdeniz has the perfect activities to create everlasting memories - fun for the entire family!

In the 1990s, as of now, this was a popular destination for British holidaymakers, hence why it can get so busy. For those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle, why not venture to Butterfly Valley, the perfect escape from the crowds gathering in Ölüdeniz. Offering unparalleled views in its lush canyon, the valley ultimately leads to a sliver of beachfront squeezed between The Yedi Burun's towering cliffs. Although adventurers with a knack for heights may attempt the steep hike down the cliffs from Faralya (be careful - the hike down the cliffs from the village of Faralya is very steep in parts and has ropes on some sections to help with stability), many visitors choose to explore by sea-- an option offering unique experiences of its own.

For those after a little more adventure, why not travel to Saklıkent Gorge, located 53 kilometres southeast of Ölüdeniz and easily accessible via a day trip. It is an ideal escape from the summer heat. Soaring canyon walls, which reach up to a height of 200 meters, offer up Shade to visitors journeying through the depths of this hidden gem. And for those looking to keep their feet (somewhat) dry, the gorge provides a modern wooden boardwalk which allows travellers to edge around the icy-blue river far beneath them. However, if you wish to venture further in, prepare yourself – you'll need to bravely ford across the chilly water. Saklıkent Gorge is more than just a picturesque escape – it's an adventure you won't forget.

Top Gun: Maverick (California)

Top Gun: Maverick was the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun, one of the most beloved films of all time. Three decades after serving as one of the Navy's top aerial aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell took to the skies once again, delighting old fans and captivating new ones alike. Top Gun: Maverick was filmed primarily in San Diego, California - just like its predecessor - ensuring that viewers experienced all of the breathtaking scenes to their fullest potential.

If you're looking to emulate your action hero, look no further than taking flight in an L-39 Albatros military jet near Los Angeles, CA. Not only are these jets used in many Hollywood blockbusters such as James Bond and Lord of War, but you will certainly feel like part of the action as you soar above the Californian desert. With views of incredible mountains, rolling hills, and glittering valleys below you, an adventure high in the sky promises to be an unparalleled and unforgettable experience. For those of you who would prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground, do not worry; there are plenty of things to see and do below.

San Diego is often referred to as "America's Finest City", thanks to its gorgeous harbour, miles of stunning beaches and variety of family-friendly attractions that draw in visitors from all over the world. The city is home to some exquisite restaurants where patrons can indulge in a delicious array of both international and traditional dishes. Guests can also participate in various activities, such as exploring the historic old town or deep-sea fishing in the nearby waters. Balboa Park is an absolute must-see for travellers to America's Finest City. Spread across 1,200 acres, it is the largest urban park in the United States and offers a variety of activities and attractions that are sure to excite the entire family. The many museums contain art, history, and culture, all housed within vintage Spanish colonial revival architecture, while its impeccable gardens, theatres, and zoo make it the perfect spot for a weekend outing.

San Diego boasts a rich and captivating past resulting from its settlement by Spanish, Mexican, and American colonists that spans multiple eras. The passage of the historical date of 1769 marks the first major shift in San Diego's timeline when both a mission and fort were erected. The state of California was later created in 1846 following United States' occupation, officially recognising San Diego as the Birthplace of California. To this day, numerous landmarks remain throughout the city, such as Old Town State Park, El Prado in Balboa Park, Presidio Park, and the Gaslamp Quarter, to name a few. Amazingly preserved relics from San Diego's former days are on permanent display to admire and explore, as well as provide an educational insight into San Diego's dynamic history. San Diego boasts something for everyone – whether you are seeking an escape in nature or excitement found in urban areas, this coastal destination is ideal.

Glass Onion: Knives Out (Greece)

In the second film in the Knives Out series, Daniel Craig returns as eccentric Detective Benoit Blanc, this time tasked with solving a murder mystery on the fictional island of Pisceshite, with stunning Greek scenery serving as the backdrop.

Thanks to its twist-a-minute murder mystery plot, Daniel Craig's marvellously wacky accent as detective Benoit Blanc and its strong air of flashiness, it's no wonder that Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has been such a hit over the holiday period. However, a huge part of Glass Onion's attraction is its setting. The film shifts from the Cluedo-esque mansion in Massachusetts found in Knives Out to a plush home on a fictional Greek island. Excitingly, some of these locations were captured IRL, and curious viewers can visit them for themselves. A real-life resort called Amanzoe became the eponymous' Glass Onion', which hosted Blanc and the gang. This majestic resort surely lives up to its name – boasting grand entryways, alluring infinity pools, and plenty of luxury finishes throughout. While the resort isn't actually on a Greek island – it's on a bit of mainland Greece called Peloponnese – it still boasts extraordinary views out over both the Ionian Sea and rows of olive groves. In terms of actual Greek islands, Glass Onion shot scenes on Spetses, located in the Saronic Gulf. Particular attention was paid to the port of Dapia on its northern coast, with a scene being shot there that showcased the characters awaiting the arrival of a yacht to take them to the Glass Onion. Spetses is steeped in culture and history, serving as both an inspiration to those who have visited it over time and a fitting location for making this movie and its narrative.

The islands of the Saronic Gulf are so close to Athens that each summer, Athenians flee there for some relief from the heat and the throbbing crowds. Aegina, just a short distance away at 30km (17 nautical miles) from Piraeus, is a perfect pick for those looking for an effortless jaunt that results in a breath of fresh air. The main attractions are the Doric Temple of Aphaia, one of the best-preserved Greek temples; several good beaches; and verdant pine and pistachio groves. Then there is Poros, which is hardly an island at all. Just a narrow inlet of 370 meters separates it from the mainland, presenting visitors with beautiful landscapes of wooded hills, perfect for any nature lover looking for peace and tranquillity. The beaches on Poros offer everything one would expect from a summer paradise, making nightlife along the waterfront during the busy summer months come alive with plenty of young people seeking fun and entertainment. On the other end of the spectrum lies Hydra (Idra), known as one of the first Greek islands to be 'discovered' by writers, visual artists, and adventurers back in the 1950s. This gem in Saronic Gulf boasts stunningly beautiful bare hills, a natural harbour, and stone mansions--making it an ideal site for history buffs. As a national monument, cars are prohibited, but motorcycles have become more prevalent in recent times on this relatively quiet island landscape.

Greece has become an ever more popular setting for films in recent years due to the beauty of its varied locations. Moreover, many historic landmarks, such as ancient temples and intricate architecture located all throughout Greece, add depth and dimension to any film project.

Avatar: The Way of Water (New Zealand)

James Cameron transported cinemagoers once more to the magical world of Pandora in the second instalment of the Avatar franchise, 'The Way of Water'. The sequel follows Jake Sully and Ney'tiri, who have formed a loving family. They are faced with the difficult decision to leave their home when an old threat emerges and start anew elsewhere. While Avatar transports viewers to the extraordinary world of Pandora, it was actually filmed in New Zealand.

New Zealand is an increasingly popular film destination, with blockbuster films such as the Lord of the Rings series, The Power of the Dog, King Kong, and The Last Samurai having been filmed there. New Zealand offers an amazing variety of spectacular landscapes perfect for setting different scenes in filmmaking, ranging from bright green fields to towering mountains and snow-capped peaks. Furthermore, New Zealand's temperate climate means that warm days can be expected throughout the year, ensuring a consistent filming schedule without any weather-related interruptions. It is easy to see why New Zealand is the top choice for many filmmakers across the world. It is also a hugely popular destination for tourists.

Queenstown, New Zealand, is an idyllic adventure seeker's paradise. From jet boat rides to skiing, river rafting and hiking, the region has something for everyone, including the opportunity to experience bungy jumping in its birthplace. However, if these activities are not for you, then there are other leisurely activities, such as spa treatments or alfresco dining which can still provide visitors with an unforgettable New Zealand experience. Alternatively, visitors may wish to explore Waiheke Island, located off the coast of New Zealand. Waiheke Island is an enchanting oasis home to a magical blend of vineyards, olive groves, beaches, art studios and funky cafes. Sip New Zealand's finest wines at one of the many vineyards while taking in its amazing sea views.

Rotorua holds a special place in New Zealand's history as New Zealand's cultural heartland, offering a cultural glimpse into pre-European Maori New Zealand. A visit to an authentic Māori village will be the highlight of your New Zealand adventure, and you'll experience storytelling, warrior dances, music and games that come alive in this cultural show presentation. After the performance, feast on a traditional hāngī feast and then indulge in the tranquil thermal hot pools found throughout Rotorua. With so much to discover in one destination, it will be difficult to picture departing New Zealand without being immersed in the Māori culture, and hospitality Rotorua has captivatingly perfected. New Zealand may be renowned for its Maori culture, but for millions of fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy, it has become a place to explore Middle‑Earth. Ever since Peter Jackson's iconic movies reinvigorated JRR Tolkien's epic stories in 2001, New Zealand has been connected with various sites featured in the films. One particularly remarkable ethereal destination is the Hobbiton Movie Set located in Matamata, as this was used to create the pleasant yet picturesque setting of The Shire. For those seeking to immerse themselves fully into this realm, guided tours are available to gain an intimate peek into all that makes New Zealand and Middle‑Earth so captivatingly magical. If you are lucky, you might be able to try some Lembas bread!

Dune: Part Two (Jordan)

Dune is set to return later this year in an ambitious second instalment of the sweeping science fiction saga. The highly anticipated film includes actors such as Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, with newcomers Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken joining the ensemble. It tells the story of Paul Atreides and his quest for revenge against those who destroyed his family while wrestling between the decisions of true love or the fate of the universe. In order to avoid a dire future set before him, he must take control and persevere.

An integral part of the Dune universe is the fictional desert planet of Arrakis which had to be faithfully reproduced on screen. To do this, filmmakers chose the stunning red Jordanian desert of Wadi Rum as its main filming location, adding yet another reason to visit Jordan in addition to all that it offers culturally and historically.

Lunar red sand, breathtaking rock formations, and dramatic plateaus, the jaw-dropping Jordanian desert of Wadi Rum is the perfect backdrop for Arrakis. Although this is not surprising, Wadi Rum has previously provided the backdrop to movies. The desert has also been used in films including Lawrence of Arabia, The Martian, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Located along the fortified borders of Jordan, Wadi Rum provides stunning environs for adventures, such as SUV safaris that take thrill-seeking visitors over the vast sands. At nightfall, if the skies are clear, travellers have a unique chance to marvel at the stars in this remote area; with traditional desert camps available as an accommodation option nearby, it is easy to have an unforgettable experience. If that wasn't enough, Petra – known as the Rose City – which has been recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is only 90 minutes away from Wadi Rum, making it a highly sought-after travel destination; certainly one for your bucket list.

Jordan offers a wide array of attractions, from natural wonders to outdoor activities. The River Mujib is especially breathtaking, with its winding course eventually leading to the enormous Dead Sea. Travellers can observe verdant landscapes and tranquil shadows along its path, home to an abundance of wildlife. Depending on the time of year, travellers can delight in wading through Wadi Mujib and observing wild cats or be enthralled by the magnificent Ma'in hot springs waterfall. Jordan's daring adventure scene offers thrills such as rafting and canyoning for those seeking a more adrenalin-fuelled experience. For those of you wanting to cool down from the hot desert sun, why not slap on the highest factor sun-protection cream available, don your swimming costume, and float, unable to sink, on the salty waters of the Dead Sea. Split between Jordan and Israel, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth, located at 427m below sea level. Its waters, nearly ten times more saline than regular seawater, appear sublimely blue or green in the right light when the sun is not overly harsh. So, don your swimming costume, slather on high-factor sun-protection cream and take advantage of the unique experience of floating effortlessly on the saltwater. Furthermore, this special body of water provides a wide range of therapeutic treatments for conditions like psoriasis and has created a modern spa scene that utilises its mineral-rich mud. Jordan offers a wealth of experiences for visitors interested in setting out to explore the wonders of this remarkable place.

Tanzania

Temperature: 32°C high; 16°C low
Season: Summer
Travel time from UK: 12 hours 30 minutes
Time difference: GMT +3

Tanzania might initially strike you as an unusual choice for January: for a start, it's low season, and being wedged between two wetter months, there's a high chance of rain. But with the rains come fertile plains and a plethora of wildlife – making it one of the best times to visit.

January marks the start of the Wildebeest calving season, which takes place between December and March. This is when thousands of Wildebeests migrate from Kenya's Masai Mara National Park into Tanzania's Ndutu plains and give birth to around 8,000 calves each day during peak times. Watching hundreds or even thousands of Wildebeests crossing rivers is an unforgettable experience – one that will stay with you long after your trip has ended. With all this vitality comes predators, and in January, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater is home to the largest concentration of lions, cheetahs, and hyenas in Africa. With so much new life running around due to the calving season, these predators have plenty of hunting opportunities – meaning there's no shortage of thrilling animal encounters waiting for you. You can get up close and personal with these majestic creatures without having to battle over prime view spots like during peak tourist season. And if that isn't enough, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area also provides some stunning landscapes for those who want to explore more than just wildlife viewing.

Tanzania is home to the famously awe-inspiring Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Adventure seekers flock here for the opportunity to take on this mighty challenge and immerse themselves in its wildly different landscapes. Experienced guides and porters are on hand to ensure your safety throughout the climb. Though the summit lies high among the clouds, those wanting a milder experience need not climb to the very top, as special excursions cater for short hikes and picnic lunches on its slopes. Another rugged yet scenic landscape is Rift Valley. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, this shallow lake is a popular destination for flamingos throughout the year - resplendent in the arc of pink feathers they present with every flap of their wings. Nature lovers will also be enthralled by the surrounding Manyara National Park, which boasts a vast array of wildlife. One particularly unique species is its occasionally tree-climbing lions - a much-photographed spectacle that you simply have to experience first-hand to believe. Tarangire, meanwhile, may not have a lake but does boast extensive marshlands that turn swathes of it a brilliant green. Abundant game gathers to frolic among the reeds and long grasses that grow near the cooling water while patient lions lounge around its shores, eyes alert for the injured or the unwary, so make sure to keep an eye out!

Lapland

Temperature: 5°C high; -9°C low
Season: Winter
Travel time from UK: 3 hours 30 minutes
Time difference: GMT +2

Lapland is a beautiful landscape with vast snow-covered terrain and an ever-present stillness that takes your breath away. Kiruna in Lapland, Sweden, located in the Arctic Circle and part of Swedish Lapland, is an idyllic snowy wonderland surrounded by nothing but snow, trees, and wilderness, which all together transforms it into a peaceful winter wonderland. Kiruna itself was originally built on an iron mine and has become a unique city, with nothing but peaceful forests and untouched wilderness to envelop you. To give you a proper Lapland experience, why not try dog sledging? The calm amidst the Lapland countryside is mesmerising as it literally feels like your sledge rides through a tranquil snowfall dreamscape. Whether you prefer navigating on your own or having a guide drive your team of huskies, either way, it will let you get lost in this winter excursion and appreciate Lapland's serenity.

Lapland in January is one of the best times to experience the Northern Lights. Unimpeded views of the Lapland sky mean that a trip up north can bring you some of the most incredible and vibrant night lights from nature without fail. Kiruna may not be the best place to get a view of the phenomenon as the light from town can obscure the brightness and colour of the Northern Lights. Away from the city lights and distractions, you get an even better view of their dancing green lights against the night sky. For experienced night sky trekkers, some of the best Northern Lights you might see are when you drive between towns, as there is no light at all. Tour companies offer specialised Northern Light tours, but any place with low light is an opportunity to see them. January in Lapland is a great time to visit as it is still during the polar night. The polar night means it is a full day of sunset or sunrise colours across the whole sky. The colours are incredible, and the short daylight hours mean more darkness to see the Northern Lights.

You will need to pack extra warm clothes with a high percentage of wool base layers as January is one of the coldest months of the year, and you can expect lots of snow and freezing cold temperatures.

Where to stay: Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Lapland is the perfect destination for experiencing a unique snow-covered wonderland. Kakslauttanen has expanded from humble beginnings to offer two separate East and West Villages, providing visitors with several cosy living options from log cabin chalets to glass and snow igloos and hybrid log-and-glass cabins. Kakslauttanen is known for its incredible views of the Northern Lights, making it a must-visit destination for expecting onlookers. While Kakslauttanen prides itself on offering a variety of structures and facilities to stay in, guests always find comfort in the snug self-sufficiency that their cabins offer - with larger cabins even featuring kitchenettes - perfect for longer stays. With facilities conveniently spread around both sides of Kakslauttanen's resort, guests can experience the beauty of Lapland just by taking a 10-minute stroll or push-sledge trip. Kakslauttanen guarantees that no other resort offers as luxurious a journey into the heart of Lapland as Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort.

Prague

Temperature: 3°C high; -1°C low
Season: Winter
Travel time from UK: 1 hour 45 minutes
Time difference: GMT +1

Prague is a beautiful destination to visit regardless of the time of year. The spire-adorned jewel on the banks of the Vltava River should be on everybody's bucket list. Prague's cobblestone streets, iconic spires, and Gothic architecture will surely leave you mesmerised. Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock are some of the city's iconic works that you simply must visit during your stay. Be sure to take your time to explore Prague's squares and alleys in all their glory. It can be very cold in January, so you should cosy up in the many quaint cafés or homely breweries in between all the sightseeing.

Beneath the Gothic façade lies a much deeper history to be explored. If you desire an insight into Prague's deep-rooted culture and thousands of years of rich history, then step into the world-famous National Museum. Housed beneath its sweeping Baroque architecture lays vast collections that uncover Prague's evolution from the medieval kingdom to communist rule and beyond. With sections dedicated to Old Czech History featuring artefacts dating back to the 10th century and even a Department for Theatre, any adventure through Prague starts here. If you're looking to dive deeper into Prague's complex past, the Communism Museum houses artefacts, photographs, and information about those who were persecuted under oppressive Communist rule. Prague holds a unique place in European History; this city has much to offer in terms of culture and knowledge - you will get to experience a variety of rich stories that Prague tells through its art and architecture.

Since ancient times, Prague has been renowned for its cheap and delicious beer. In fact, Czech women brewed beer at home for soups and sauces, and this unique tradition has continued through the ages. Though prices have increased in recent years due to rising energy costs, Prague still offers some of the cheapest beers you can find in Europe. It is difficult to say which beer is the best in Prague, and with more than 500 places to get your hands on an authentic Czech brew, it can be overwhelming to choose the best beverage. But you can't go wrong with Pilsner Urquell. Probably the most well-known Czech beer, this somewhat bitter, golden-ish beverage is originally from the city of Plzeň but can be found in every pub you enter in the city of Prague. For those looking for a good-old booze-up, why not sign up for the infamous Drunken Monkey Pub Crawl? You can visit the best pubs and bars around the city with free welcome drinks at all bars and VIP entry to the final club. It'll undoubtedly be a night to remember... well, probably.

Where to stay: Prague is a city full of many grand, majestic gems, and the Alcron Hotel Prague stands among them as one of its premiere Art Nouveau marvels. Each feature the hotel holds to its name offers an enjoyable experience for visitors. The restaurant serves only specially crafted dishes from gourmet chefs, while the bar is lively enough to hold savoury conversations while sharing some lighthearted laughs. All of these aspects are wrapped in a luxurious around-the-clock health area adorned with costly fine art pieces that all draw you further into its aura.

With its prime location only 100 metres away from Wenceslas Square, you can enjoy Prague's hustle and bustle right at your doorstep. Yet, it's still close enough to Old Town Prague so that you can easily take a leisurely 15-minute stroll to visit landmarks such as Charles Bridge and Prague Castle – all of which are within easy walking distance. To top it off, with three different metro stations accessible nearby, getting around Prague is hassle-free. Come to Prague and make the most of your stay when you choose the Alcron Hotel Prague.

Private Jets for Ski Holidays

PRIVATE JETS FOR SKI HOLIDAYS

There are few things more luxurious than a private jet.

They provide fast, efficient access to snow-covered mountains around the world, allowing travellers to enjoy a hassle-free, luxurious ski holiday.

The following three types of aircraft can be used for private jets for skiing: Helicopters; light aircraft with one or two seats; and larger private jets that seat up to 19 passengers. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to time spent in transit versus comfort during travel. However, when considering which plane is right for your next ski trip, there are several factors to consider beyond just how long it takes you get there:

PRIVATE JETS FOR SKI HOLIDAYS

Skiing is a popular winter sport, and ski holidays are a common way to spend time during the colder months. But these trips can be expensive—the cost of travel and lodging can easily add up if you're flying on a commercial airline. If you want to save money while traveling, consider renting a private jet instead of flying commercially.

Private jets are more comfortable than traditional airlines, faster and more convenient than driving yourself or taking public transportation, and they allow passengers to skip baggage checks because there are no unruly mobs trying to get on board with their oversized suitcases at the last minute.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRIVATE JET FOR YOUR SKI TRIP

Choosing the right private jet for your ski trip is an extremely important decision, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. We’ve put together a list of tips to help you make the best choice.

EUROCOPTER EC120B COLIBRI HELICOPTER

The EC120B is a great helicopter for ski-loving travellers. The two-seater chopper can reach speeds of 160 km/h and has a range of 400 km, so you'll be able to get to your destination in no time.

The EC120B is a light single-engine helicopter with seats for two passengers. It's perfect for those who want to travel fast but are not interested in clunky fuel tanks or heavy equipment, resulting in an easy take-off and landing on any stretch of flat ground that's big enough for the helicopter's footprint (meaning it won’t sink into the snow).

BOMBARDIER GLOBAL EXPRESS XRS

The Bombardier Global Express XRS is a long-range business jet that can fly up to 7,500 nautical miles non-stop. It has a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.85 and is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710A2-20 turbofans.

It features an ultra-modern avionics system with four multi-function displays and dual head-up display systems for the pilot and co-pilot which help them keep track of their aircraft’s position at all times.

The Global Express XRS also has advanced weather radar with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) allows operators to see through ice or fog in order to safely land on runways when they might otherwise be unable to do so because of inclement weather conditions like heavy rain or light snowfall on the ground surface below them making it difficult for pilots to see precisely where their planes are landing safely without having SAR enabled onboard their craft!

CESSNA CITATION CJ3

The Cessna Citation CJ3 is a medium-range jet with a range of 2,500 nautical miles, which makes it perfect for ski and mountain destinations. This aircraft can accommodate up to 10 passengers (6 in first class), and has a maximum payload of 9,000 lbs. The max cruise speed is 425 knots; the max ceiling is 45,000 feet, and the max rate of climb is 2,600 feet per minute. The engine type is Pratt & Whitney PW535B

Private jets provide fast, efficient access to snow-covered mountains around the world, allowing travellers to enjoy a hassle-free, luxurious ski holiday.

You may be surprised to learn that private jets provide fast and efficient access to snow-covered mountains around the world, allowing travellers to enjoy a hassle-free, luxurious ski holiday.

Private jets allow passengers to take advantage of mountaintop airports that are often inaccessible by traditional commercial aircraft. These airports are located at high altitudes and can be reached only by helicopter or small plane – not by larger passenger aircraft like commercial jets. Private air charter services fly these smaller planes so you can get there in style!

The use of a small jet also means that you don't need to worry about bad weather conditions – whether it's cloudy or foggy out there will never affect your flight plans as long as your pilot knows where he/she is going! Additionally, with fewer people aboard than in a standard commercial airliner there's less chance something could happen during flight; making this even safer than driving yourself up into the mountains (and back down again).

The Roundup

Private jets provide fast, efficient access to snow-covered mountains around the world, allowing travellers to enjoy a hassle-free, luxurious ski holiday.

The choice of aircraft is up to you, from helicopters and propeller planes to larger jets with spacious cabins and state-of-the-art entertainment systems for an unforgettable trip.

5 Sustainable Locations You Must Visit

It's no wonder that responsible tourism is gaining popularity as we become more aware of our influence on the environment and want to reduce it. More visitors than ever before are seeking methods to travel ethically, focusing on places that are environmentally friendly and kind to the people they visit.

Many amazing places across the world use eco-friendly measures to lessen tourism's environmental effect. Continue reading to learn about the most environmentally friendly destinations to visit on the planet and to choose your next responsible trip.

Five Eco-Friendly Destinations to Travel

SLOVENIA

In 2017, Slovenia was appointed the most sustainable country on earth by National Geographic. From eco-friendly zones, recycling programs and restricted swimming areas Slovenia has a lot to offer.

Slovenia tells the story of green.

Nearly 60% of this Eastern European country is covered in forest, and 53.6 per cent of its land is protected, making it the European country with the largest percentage of the protected area. Slovenia's 40 parks and reserves feature a plethora of hiking routes from which to observe around 20,000 different flora and animals. Its capital city, Ljubljana, has also received recognition for its numerous sustainability and eco-tourism projects, being appointed Europe’s Greenest Captial By the European Union.

Sustainable cuisine

Sustainability is on the menu.

Slovenian cuisine is based on ingredients found in Slovenia’s most immediate areas. This modern approach has combined elements of culinary traditions. From iconic plates of Carniolan sausage, strukelj dumplings, and potica cake, travellers will expect a strong farm-to-table traditional meals that are simply incredible.

From dining to fine wine, Slovenia has roughly 28,000 wineries and have winemaking tradition that dates back to Roman times. Just by the Italian border, Primorska wine region is home to the Goriska Brda subregion, perhaps Slovenia’s best-known wine area.

ARUBA - Eco-friendly Caribbean Getaway

Aruba’s pristine beaches and clear turquoise waters attract more than one million visitors each year.

This little-known destination is a world leader in promoting eco-tourism, with the eco-tourism industry accounting for approximately 70% of the country's income. This money is spent by the nation to run wind farms, which provide almost 20% of Aruba's electricity.

The government has also devised plans to build additional sidewalks in areas to encourage people to walk instead of taking taxis or other means of transportation that may cause traffic congestion and pollution. Aruba is also noted for its environmentally friendly transportation choices, such as the Aruba solar-powered tram that brings visitors to the capital, Oranjestad. The Aruba Care Reef Project also invites people to participate in regular beach and scuba diving site cleanups.

AZORES

The bulk of the Azores, an independent island chain in Portugal, is off-limits to commercial or industrial development.

Azores | Astute Private Jet Charter

Three of its islands are UNESCO biosphere reserves, and the local government prioritises renewable energy. Graciosa, the third-smallest island, generated the bulk of its electricity in 2017 with a combination of solar, wind, and battery grid storage, with other islands following suit. As a result, it stands to reason that sustainable tourism is a major draw for each of the nine volcanic islands, with visitors enjoying unpolluted lakes, unspoilt landscapes, and an abundance of animals.

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND

The city of Reykjavik has won the Nordic Nature and Environment Prive in 2014 and now is placed the sixth on the Global Destination Sustainability Index.

Reykjavik Iceland | Astute Private Jet Charter

Reykjavik is entirely powered by renewable energy. The country uses geothermal activity to provide renewable energy to power the grid. Reykjavik is a living example of sustainability in the modern world, deriving most of its heat and power from geothermal and hydro resources. Iceland has also said that it intends to transition to a hydrogen economy by 2050, eliminating its need for fossil fuels.

Icelandic Cuisine.

When it comes to cuisine, renewable energy is used in Icelandic high-end fine dining. Using factors of land and sea to prepare the food and even cook it. In Iceland, Icelanders rely solely on what they have sourced on their land. Using creative methods to produce and store food.

From Plokkfiskur fish stew to cinnamon buns, Reykjavik provides luxury food that will satisfy your taste bud, due to its creative flair, natural ingredients and sophistication.

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Cape Town is continually striving for new and inventive technology to make the city more sustainable — so much so that wind farms were first used for energy in 2008. The city is attempting to promote an idealised outdoor lifestyle. To promote this, the city has invested in secure bike paths, and its My CiTi fast service enables bikes aboard buses for free, allowing people to travel around without a car. In addition, many individuals have begun to produce their own veggies and utilise solar panels.

Astute Aviation & Sustainability: Flying the Right Way

Astute Aviation is devoted to a long-term sustainability programme that goes well beyond carbon offsets and industry norms. Our primary goal is to reduce the overall climate effect of our private jet flights.

Our corporation recognises that flying is important for global tourism, but also has an impact on the carbon footprint. Because it may be several decades before the industry has a commercially viable replacement to fossil jet fuel (such as hydrogen-powered or electronic aircraft), we have investigated the idea of creating a fuel source utilising the sustainable resource. The most typically utilised materials are waste and feedstocks, and Astute Aviation takes care to ensure that any feedstocks used are sustainable within the local community and do not deplete additional resources such as extra land or water in their production. Maintenance is also made to ensure that the cultivation of feedstock for biofuels does not trump or replace food production or living space for residents.

What You Can Do as a Consumer

There are several potential changes that might alter the landscape of private aviation travel in the next years. There are still things you can do as an aircraft consumer to help alleviate environmental damage and promote the future of sustainable aviation.

When flying privately, ask your provider how you may offset your carbon footprint. Inquire about the programmes they have in place, and if they don't, push them to consider implementing one. Travel to eco-friendly and sustainable countries for your holiday trip.

And finally, we may well have hydrogen-powered aircraft in a few decades or so. Keep reading our blog on changes in private aviation and what they might mean for the way you travel.

Astute Destination - Reykjavik

Iceland is a magical and mysterious land renowned for its dramatic landscape - from the cascading waterfalls thundering down the jagged mountain cliffs to the crystalline glaciers and the vibrant and colourful auroras that dance unpredictably in the Arctic sky. Iceland is a place that most people should visit at least once in their lives.

Whether it becomes a regular getaway or an enchanting experience you never forget, the place to begin during any excursion to Iceland must be the nation's capital, Reykjavik.

Routinely ranked as among the world's best cities for travellers, Reykjavík is the world's northernmost capital. Nearly two-thirds of Iceland's population lives in the capital. Granted, that's only around 123,000 people, but what it lacks in terms of the populace, it more than makes up for in culture and excitement.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

WHALE WATCHING TOUR

Iceland is known to possess some of the richest marine habitats anywhere in the world, with twenty-three species of cetaceans calling the Icelandic waters home. White-beaked dolphins, killer whales and harbour porpoises are perfectly adapted to cold water temperatures and can be seen year-round on the Icelandic coast. Other species, such as blue and humpback whales, are known to take on a yearly migration during the winter, travelling towards their birthing grounds in warmer aquatic areas. Many marine areas around Iceland are marine protected areas, providing conservation measurements for these animals and making whale watching even more enjoyable year-round in Iceland.

Since Iceland offers a varying extent of marine ecosystems, going on a whale-watching tour can be an exciting adventure as you will likely observe different species depending on the area. In Reykjavik, the best whale-watching tour is Elding Whale Watching, a family company with over 20 years of experience. Enjoy a wonderful excursion aboard a luxurious yacht, deep into the natural habitats of Iceland's most beautiful creatures, all without disturbing the animals. The views of the bay are worth the trip alone. The crew are passionate and informative and even provide free sea sickness tablets should you need them.

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN ICELANDIC ART AND CULTURE

Iceland has a dynamic and unique cultural scene stemming from its diverse natural landscape, close-knit population, and an ambitious spirit. If you want to immerse yourself in Icelandic's art and cultural scene, the first place you must visit is Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre. A dazzling modern landmark for Reykjavík, Harpa is an impressive building near the old harbour of Reykjavik with a distinctive coloured glass facade inspired by the basalt landscape of Iceland. It's worth visiting this remarkable building for its architecture alone, as you'll be able to admire it both from the outside and inside. Be sure to check out what's happening at the Harpa Concert Hall. You might be able to watch the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra during a rehearsal or attend a concert with some of Iceland's most popular bands. Several multicultural celebrations occur throughout the year, and at night, it's lit up with moving LED artwork by Olafur Eliasson.

It's not just at Harpa that you can explore Reykjavik's art scene. Choose any museum, gallery, outdoor sculpture, or street art, all widely available throughout Reykjavík. The statue, Sun Voyager, is a gleaming steel sculpture on Reykjavik's splendid waterfront that resembles a Viking long-ship. It's not too far of a walk from Harpa Concert Hall and has a fantastic view of Mt Esja. You will likely find other sculptures dotted throughout the city and the two largest sculpture museums, the Einar Jonsson Museumnd and Asmundur Museum in Laugardalur.

Fans of fine architecture will wish to visit Hallgrimskirkja Church. You shouldn't have any difficulty finding the church as it is visible from almost every angle of the city. Hallgrimskirkja is an operating church, so the tower is closed on Sundays and may be closed at other points during the year due to services or concerts taking place inside. At the top of this 244-foot tall expressionist-style building is a viewing platform boasting 360-degree views of the entire city, so make sure you don't forget your camera.

HIKING & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

If there is one place on Earth that is a hiker's paradise, it's Iceland. Thanks to its unbelievably diverse landscapes, long daylight hours, and friendly locals, Iceland is one of the best places in the world for hiking. You will be constantly amazed by the beauty and ruggedness of Iceland's waterfalls, mountains, glaciers, and beaches. If you're visiting Iceland and plan on staying in the capital, Reykjavík, there are plenty of mountains to climb and areas to explore. However, it is important to note that the hiking season is pretty short, lasting from June to September. Beyond those months, you can only go on particular expeditions with experienced guides.

From atop these mountains, you will be able to admire the stunning views of Iceland. Kayaking, however, provides a wholly unique vantage point from which to appreciate these incredible landscapes. Guests crammed in a packed minibus will seethe with jealousy thinking about your maritime, sightseeing adventure. Kayaks are silent and stealthy, allowing you to get up close and personal with some of Iceland's most beautiful wildlife, such as Black Guillemots, Arctic Tern, Eider Ducks, Razorbills, and, of course, the Atlantic Puffin. If you are fortunate, you may also see any one of the seal species that call Icelandic coastal waters their home.

ENJOY A RELAXING DIP IN A GEOTHERMAL POOL

No visit to Iceland would be complete without a nice, soothing dip in a geothermal pool. Since settlers first discovered the glacier-capped island, the naturally-heated lagoons have offered bathing solutions and provided a place for rest and rejuvenation. The Blue Lagoon is by far the most famous, with its healing water and large silica mud-lined pools attracting hundreds of visitors daily. Slipping into the milky warm water when the air temperatures around you are biting cold is as brilliant as it is surreal and an experience we cannot recommend enough.

However, there is another lagoon, a Secret Lagoon, just an hour's drive from Reykjavik. Reaching the Secret Lagoon feels like an exciting adventure as you follow empty roads to the small village of Fludir, passing steaming geyser fields and crossing bridges over thundering turquoise waterfalls. Upon arriving, you'll be greeted by a small, modest building that blends into the remote landscape. Hot pools bubble around the central lagoon, producing steam that shrouds the bathers.

ENJOY THE CITY'S NIGHTLIFE

Iceland may be synonymous with serenity due to its remote landscape, sparse population, tranquil waters, and soothing lagoons. Yet, like any other European city, Reykjavik has a vibrant, pulsating nightlife that will have you dancing until the break of dawn.

The city is alive with all types of entertainment. Stand-up comedy, theatre, opera, jazz, drag shows, cabaret performances, musicals, and even poetry brothels, you name it, Reykjavik has it. Gaukurinn has a weekly stand-up comedy show on Monday nights and is the venue of choice for the local drag scene, Drag-Sugur.

The nightlife in Reykjavik can be found in the main shopping district, Laugavegur. You can choose between quiet cafes and jam-packed party venues, all within a bottle cap's throw of each other. Whatsmore, none of the bars charge entrance fees (unless they have scheduled a specific performance for that night). The lack of entry fees means you can casually stroll from one bar to another as you see fit. From Sunday to Thursday, most venues are open until 1 a.m., but on Friday and Saturday nights, many stay open until 5 a.m. Although opening times may differ during the winter.

Across Reykjavik, people party into the early hours, and after the bars and clubs close, drunken revellers, spill out onto the streets, trying to find their way home or an after-party.

EXPERIENCE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

We could not possibly detail a visit to Iceland without discussing Aurora Borealis, although more commonly known as the Northern Lights. Painting the night sky in dreamlike colours, these beautiful dancing waves of light have captivated people for millennia.

Catching the Northern Lights is a gift not granted to everyone who visits Iceland. It takes planning, patience, and, most of all, luck.

To see the Northern Lights in Iceland, you must consider quite a few things. First and foremost, the location and time. You need to be at the right place at the right time. Iceland is perfectly positioned in the Auroral Zone and offers the chance to see the Northern Lights seven to eight months per year. While Aurora viewing is possible through autumn and winter, which lasts from about mid-August until mid-April, the best months to see the Northern Lights are from October to March, as the nights are pitch black and last 10 to 20 hours.

Once you are in Iceland, remember to closely monitor the weather forecast. While you do not need a completely clear sky, a cohesive layer of clouds will make it impossible to see anything. The best place to get a clear view is to find a flat area or a higher viewpoint where no mountains or tall buildings are blocking the view. Sometimes, the Aurora appears very low, close to the horizon, so if you want a good idea, it is important to find a place to see the sky clearly.

Where should you go if you're lucky enough to have a favourable aurora forecast and a weather report that promises clear skies? Here are some recommendations near Reykjavik.

One of the most convenient places to wait for the Northern Lights is by Grótta lighthouse in Seltjarnarnes, just five minutes from downtown Reykjavik by car. If you are willing to travel further afield, we suggest you travel to Kirkjufell, or Church Mountain. The distinctive shape of this Snæfellsnes peninsula landmark is easy to focus on if you're trying to capture an image with your camera, making it well worth the two-hour journey for anyone passionate about photography. Unfortunately, it's also utterly Insta-worthy and so likely to be crowded on a night which promises a strong showing.

WHAT TO EAT

While everyone knows about Iceland's natural beauty, most people don't know what to expect when it comes to Icelandic food.

As with most Scandinavian countries, the cuisine is entirely inspired by the ingredients Icelanders have around them, from the free-roaming sheep to the cod, herring, and char that splash around the cold Arctic waters.

With tourists visiting the country in droves, Iceland's food scene is experiencing something of a renaissance. To help you enjoy the ultimate gastronomic pilgrimage across Iceland, we've compiled seven dishes you must try.

Pylsur (or hot dog)

Reykjavik's Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur has been in business for over 60 years, serving some of the best hot dogs - made up of a blend of beef, lamb and pork. Order it eina með öllu, or with everything, including crunchy deep-fried onions, raw onions, sweet brown mustard, and a creamy remoulade. It is delicious.

Skyr

If you want to eat like a local, you need to eat Skyr, a thick and creamy dairy product that's best described as a marriage between yoghurt and cottage cheese. This thick and creamy delicacy is often served with cream and tart berry jam and tastes quite like Greek yoghurt and creme fraiche.

 Ice cream and cheese

You will find plenty of good ice cream shops scattered around Reykjavik, like trendy Valdis or mainstay Ísbúðin Laugalæk, offering everything from traditional vanilla gelato to Turkish pepper and black liquorice. Why not enjoy a scoop of rye-bread ice cream at Cafe Loki, a quirky restaurant right in front of the Hallgrímskirkja, the city's church and most iconic landmark.

Rye bread

Icelandic rye bread, or rúgbrauð, is a staple of Icelandic cuisine. There are hundreds of ways to eat it: topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese, chopped and blended in ice cream, served with extra creamy butter and crunchy lava salt.

If you were to ask a local, however, they will tell you there's only one way to make it. It should be buried 30 centimetres in the ground next to a bubbling geyser. First made famous by Sigurður Rafn Hilmarsson, a national icon from the small town of Laugarvatn, the bread is soft and tastes more like cake thanks to the added sugar he sprinkles in the dough. It takes about a day to cook in a pot underground, but the end result brings thousands of visitors to the Laugavautn Wellness Resort and Geothermal bakery every year.

Seafood

Fish is found aplenty all throughout Reykjavik, from deep-fried cod at Icelandic Fish and Chips to salted cod flatbreads and mussel stews at Slippbarrin in the Marina Hotel.

Stewed, boiled, fried, roasted or grilled, fish has been a mainstay in Icelandic cuisine for as long as people have lived there. Delicacies like plokkfiskur, or "mashed fish stew," kept the locals satisfied during the painfully cold winters, and while times have changed, fish remains a huge staple. Lobster, in particular, is a popular choice. The small Icelandic langoustine is incredibly tender and delicious and an expensive favourite.

WHERE TO STAY

Fosshotel Reykjavík

With its 320 rooms, the slick four-star hotel is the largest in Iceland. The hotel offers an upscale experience that is quite unique in Reykjavic, which tends to favour smaller boutique hotels and apartments. From the wall of foliage in the lobby and the earthly colours and stylish décor of the hotel's restaurant, there is a welcoming aesthetic throughout that extends to the comfortable rooms.

The main hotel restaurant, Haust - the Icelandic word for autumn - is designed by local designer Leifur Welding, and serves up fresh Icelandic cuisine like smoked cod, grilled Chinese cabbage, lamb and horse. If it is drinks you are after, why not grab a drink at the Beer Garden, which serves up 22 beers on draft and over 200 types of bottled beer from all over the world.

CenterHotel Midgardur

One of several CenterHotels dotted around Reykjavik, Midgardur is one of the more stylish options within the brand's portfolio, offering hip rooms and a sleek spa and hot pool area.

Set inside a former bank, the hotel is fairly eye-catching from the outside. It is even slicker inside, with large windows letting in lots of light and contemporary design dotting the spacious public areas. On one side of the building is the Jörgenson restaurant. Rooms have a chic, Nordic-inspired aesthetic, stylish furnishings and attractively mellow colour schemes.

Eyja Guldsmeden Hotel

On the edge of downtown Reykjavik, this stylish, eco-friendly hotel offers stylish rooms, views across to Mount Esja and a chic bar and restaurant. Run by a local couple, Linda Jóhannsdóttir and Ellert Finnbogason, both highly experienced in hotel management. They have a good eye for interior design, and it shines through every nook and cranny of the hotel with carefully selected designer furnishings. Their passion for sustainability is on display, from the materials used throughout to the organic food served in the restaurant.

The hotel is located close to the main shopping district, Laugavegur, and close to the downtown action; there is plenty of things to entertain yourselves with during your stay. Tjörnin lake and the harbour area are around 30 minutes on foot, with plenty of designer shops, restaurants, cafés and bars for you stop off at on the way.

THE BEST BARS

THE BEST HIKING TRAILS

* It is worth reiterating that outside the months of June to September as conditions can be dangerous. You can only go on very specific expeditions with experienced guides.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHARTER A PRIVATE JET IN ADVANCE?

Flying privately means quieter airports, much fewer fellow travellers, private lounges and no queues. For some time, private aviation has been an on-demand industry. Meaning it has now got to the point where the private jet charter market can not cope with demand, especially when travellers are keen to travel privately last minute.

Therefore, there has never been a better time to know your schedule and travel plans in advance. Booking your travel ahead can guarantee you a bespoke journey and experience.

Probably now, you wonder what is the best time to charter a flight or how far in advance should I book a private jet charter.

Read our latest blog and uncover everything you need to know for your next private jet flight.

The Benefits of Booking Your Private Jet Flight Early

Astute Aviation will provide you with a bespoke service, doing all we can to meet your needs to arrange your trip with the most peaceful in-flight experience. At Astute Aviation, we pride ourselves on offering high-quality, end-to-end service.

However, meeting your necessities is always easier if we just had a little bit more time.

Book a Private Jet Early For Peak Travel Times and Events

If you're planning to travel around the time of momentous holidays, celebrations or events, it's essential to be aware that there will be an increased request for private flights.

To ensure you are not left disappointed, we advise planning ahead to assure the best private jet allocation and luxuries you want.

Book your private jet for The Football World Cup, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or your vacations as soon as you know your travel plans.

When is the Best Time to Book a Private Jet Charter?

With private jet charters, more notice time is always better than less.

So, a good rule of thumb is to book with as much advance notice as possible. Booking 1-2 months ahead is ideal, assuring Astute Aviation specialists can secure the best aircraft for your trip.

Unlike commercial flights, where you may find good values with a shorter time frame before departure, the best deals on private jet charters are usually found when there is more advance notice. This is because providing notice in advance will give you access to the greatest number of aircraft choices for your next flight, which is also the key to finding the best value for money.

Do Most People Book Private Jets 1-2 Months Before Departure?

Truth be told, the correct answer is no.

Almost ¾ of all private jet charters are booked between 2-3 weeks before the flight. This means that these clients compete to find the best private jets for their needs. It is most likely they will discover quite fewer good values for their charter as the best-priced options probably have been secured months before.

Can I Charter a Private Jet Less Than a Month In advance?

Yes. We understand that there are times when you cannot give 1-2 months' notice ahead of your flight. This does not mean you are closed out from chartering. SHY Aviation specialists will work quickly to allocate and secure an aircraft for you and get you off the ground as soon as possible, assuring your bespoke flight experience.

Do the Same Notice Rules Apply to Empty Leg Flights?

If you are looking for an empty-leg flight (a flight scheduled to fly without passengers), you should charter no more than two weeks before departure.

This is because these flights may have been cancelled close to the departure date. However, beware that this travel option also has stricter schedules and little or no amenities or catering availability. Moreover, unlike conventional private jet charters, there is a greater risk that your empty-leg flight will be grounded as it may be cancelled shortly before the departure date.

What categories of private jet are there?

What categories of private jet are there?

A private jet is a type of aircraft that is used for the transportation of a small number of people, either non-stop or with no stops, on demand. The word "private" refers to the fact that the jet can be privately owned or leased and operated. Private jets are often used by celebrities or executives as they can afford to pay for them.

Turboprop

Turboprops are propeller-driven aircraft with one or more engines driving propellers. The blades of the propeller are not powered by any jet engines but turn as a direct result of the air passing through them from a high-speed fan engine or turbine. Turboprops generally have lower speeds, higher weights and longer wings than jets, but can be used for short-haul flights like regional trips where people want to avoid driving in traffic jams.

Turboprop aircrafts include:

Jet Prop

Jet Prop is a type of aircraft that is a cross between a jet and a propeller plane. Jet Props are usually small to medium-sized. Jet Prop planes are popular for short-haul flights.

Light jet

Light jets are the smallest aircraft in the private jet world, and they can be configured to seat anywhere between 4 and 10 passengers. Because of their size, light jets are often used for short-haul flights within North America or Europe. Their speed and manoeuvrability make them popular with business people who need to travel between cities repeatedly on short notice; however, they're also popular among families with young children who want to fly privately but don't need an extra-large cabin space. Light jets typically have a range of around 1,000 nautical miles—the equivalent of about 700 miles on land—which means that you'll be able to reach most major airports without refuelling.

Light jets are a great option for anyone who wants to get into flying private without spending too much money upfront (since you can rent them). They're also perfect for making your first few trips into the world of aviation!

Mid-size jet

The mid-size jet is the most popular category of private jet, and it's used for short trips or longer trips with multiple stops. They have a range of between 1,700 and 2,700 nautical miles (the distance from New York to Los Angeles). What makes these jets so versatile is that they can fly coast-to-coast without stopping, or they can fly between cities within one country on multiple legs.

These jets are perfect for business travel—especially when there are several locations in different countries where you need to be on the same day. They're also great if you need to go somewhere that isn't easily accessible by commercial airliners because it's too small or too far away from major airports.

Super mid-size jet

Super mid-size jets are the perfect size for you if you're looking to travel with your family or a group of friends, but don't necessarily want to go out of your way. With seating capacities ranging from 8 to 16 people, these aircrafts can accommodate groups with different schedules and budgets. They typically have very large cabins with amenities like leather seats, Wi-Fi connectivity, entertainment systems and even beds—perfect for overnight flights. If you're travelling alone or with just one other person, this class jet will be plenty comfortable for both of you!

The typical cabin size is 7.5 feet wide and 10 feet long (2 m x 3 m). The typical range is 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 km), allowing it to reach destinations as far away as Europe or South America without having to refuel along the way—though smaller stops may still be necessary depending on how much fuel each passenger consumes during their flight (this number varies depending on weight; gender; age; height). Cruising speed averages around 500 knots (575 mph/926 kph)

Large cabin jet

If you need to travel long-range distances, then a large cabin jet is the right choice for you. These planes offer a range of 8,000 to 12,500 nautical miles and can be configured for up to 14 passengers. They're typically used by high-net-worth individuals and celebrities who are looking for luxury travel experiences.

Heavy jet / Long-Range Jet

A Heavy jet or Long-Range Jet is the largest category of private jets and offers the highest level of luxury. These jets are often referred to as superjumbos or heavy jets because of their size and range. They typically come with full-sized beds, galleys (kitchens), dining areas, showers and other amenities. Some even have their own restaurants! As you can imagine, this type of jet is perfect for very long trips across oceans or continents where a need for comfort may arise during flight time.

The best examples in this category are the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), Bombardier Global Express XRS/Superseries/EXR series aircrafts (GEXR/SERS) and Gulfstream G550/600/650 & Challenger 605/650 series aircrafts (GLF6O).

The round-up

So, what are the types of private jets? As you can see, they range from small and compact to large and luxurious. It all depends on what type of experience you’re looking for! Whether it be for business or pleasure, there is a jet out there for everyone. If you want to learn more about which type of aircraft will suit your needs best- give us a call today!

Most Popular Private Jet Routes

Private jets are renowned luxury, but they're also a necessity. Whether you're flying to a business meeting or a vacation destination, the right plane can make all the difference. In order to find out which destinations people are most likely to charter private jets for, we looked at flight data from our customers on trips from 2017 through mid-2022 using our internal database and industry tools like FlightAware and Routehappy. We found that these 10 routes were consistently popular with travelers:

Teterboro - Palm Beach

Palm Beach is the most popular private jet destination, and Teterboro is one of the busiest private jet airports in the world. So if you're looking to fly to Palm Beach, a trip from Teterboro could be right for you.

This route offers many advantages over other routes: it's shorter than most other routes; it has a lower chance of delays or cancellations; and it offers great amenities for passengers.

For example, most planes have seats that recline completely flat so passengers can lie down during their flight (this isn't possible on most commercial aircraft). Some planes have video screens so passengers can watch movies or shows (some don't have screens at all). And some planes offer gourmet food options like sushi rolls, steak tartare, or chocolate-covered strawberries (these are also available on some flights).

Van Nuys - Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a major tourist destination, and Van Nuys is the closest airport to Las Vegas. For this reason, there are many flights from Van Nuys to Las Vegas. A typical flight time will be about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Vero Beach - Fort Lauderdale

If you're looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, Vero Beach and Fort Lauderdale are the perfect places to visit. In just an hour-and-a-half, you can be enjoying the beaches of Florida's east coast. These two cities make up Florida's Treasure Coast and offer plenty of romantic options to indulge in with that special someone or by yourself. If you'd rather spend your time exploring history and culture, however, there are plenty of museums and art galleries along the way that are worth visiting too!

The flight between these two locations is short enough that it won't take up too much time during your stay—which means more time at the beach! You'll arrive at Vero Beach Municipal Airport (VRB) where you can rent a car or find transportation around town before heading over to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). While there aren't many direct flights from FLL back to VRB due to its distance from major metropolitan areas like Orlando or Tampa Bay; many carriers will still fly into Ft. Lauderdale International Airport if given enough notice about when this trip ends so make sure not leave anything important behind!

Miami - New York

If you're looking to fly between New York and Miami, the Learjet 45 is the jet for you. With eight seats and a flight time of one hour and 28 minutes, this aircraft is perfect for business travelers who want to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible (and in style). At $4,999 per trip, it's also reasonable enough that most CEOs can afford it.

Los Angeles International Airport - Palm Springs

The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is located about 20 miles from Palm Springs.

Due to the distance between these two points, only small and mid-sized aircraft can be used on this route.

The amenities available at the Palm Springs International Airport include a restaurant, which makes it an excellent location for resting passengers before they continue their journey.

It takes around 35 minutes to fly from LAX to PSP.

White Plains - Fort Lauderdale

  • Distance: 1,140 miles

  • Travel time: 2 hours, 50 minutes

  • Number of stops: None. Direct flight available.

  • Passenger capacity: 6 passengers in a super mid-size jet

  • Aircraft types available: Embraer Phenom 300, Cessna Citation CJ1 and Hawker 4000

San Diego - Hawthorne

San Diego - Hawthorne

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is the primary airport serving San Diego County, California. It is located in San Diego, California and covers an area of 1,200 acres (486 ha). The airport is owned and operated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. It is a hub for Volaris Airlines and seasonal flights to Hawaii are available through Hawaiian Airlines as well as private jet charter services. In 2017 alone, this route accounted for over $2 billion in economic impact on the community.[2]

Hawthorne Municipal Airport (HHR) is a public airport located three miles (5 km) south of Hawthorne's central business district.[3] HHR was founded in 1927 as Clover Field after aviator Eugene Biscailuz,[4][5] who helped establish the first municipal airport in Southern California.[6] Commercial flights began at Clover Field in 1931[7][8][9] but ceased during World War II[10], resuming again from 1948 until being replaced by Bob Hope Airport on May 1st 1960 when it opened its doors for full operation with commercial airline service along with general aviation facilities.[11][12][13].

Van Nuys - Mammoth Lakes

Van Nuys - Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes is a town in Mono County, California, situated at 8,900 feet (2,700 m) above sea level and located on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The town's population was 682 at the 2010 census.

Teterboro - Dallas Love Field

Teterboro Airport is a small airport in New Jersey, while Dallas Love Field is a large airport in Dallas. Teterboro is one of the most popular private jet hubs in the United States, with more than 200 jets on its tarmac at any given time. Dallas Love Field has become one of the fastest growing airports for private jets. Teterboro currently has about 350 jets and this number is set to increase by 25% over the next two years.

Why do Companies use private jets?

Why do Companies use private jets?

Private jet charter provides the highest levels of convenience, productivity and comfort to executive teams. There are many reasons to use private jets. The main general reasons that we hear most often are listed below.

Convenience.

Convenience. As the name suggests, it’s a private flight which means that you get to travel without any hassles of commercial flights. With your own plane, you can go anywhere whenever you want and land on any runway around the world without having to worry about flights being delayed or cancelled at the last minute. You will be able to make your own schedule and adjust the route of travel based on your preferences.

Speed.

Speed is another advantage of flying in a private jet. A commercial flight takes many hours to reach its destination while a private jet can fly faster since there are no other passengers along with you onboard and hence there are fewer delays due to technical issues or bad weather conditions as well as fewer security checks before takeoff.*Comfort is yet another reason why people prefer flying by their own aircraft than taking an airline flight because they get more space, privacy, comfort and luxury while flying privately.* Private jets provide peace of mind knowing that their safety is assured when travelling by air with family members or colleagues since these planes have all necessary emergency equipment onboard so that everyone can stay safe during emergencies like fire outbreaks etc.

Discretion.

How many times have you seen a celebrity or public figure in the news for using a private jet? It's more than likely that it was at least once, if not multiple times. The media loves to report on the lavish lifestyles of celebrities.

However, companies also want to avoid this scrutiny when they travel. Because of this, they often opt for flying privately rather than commercially. This way, they can keep their travel plans secret and avoid being seen as wasteful or extravagant by others. Private jets are also beneficial because they allow executives to be discreet with their meetings while travelling; they can meet in an office on board instead of having people come into town and finding ways to get together off-site.

Productivity.

There are a number of reasons why companies decide to use private jets. One of the biggest is productivity.

When you fly on a commercial flight, you have to wait in line for security and check-in, which can take up to an hour or more depending on how busy the airport is that day. During this time, you're not doing anything productive. You're just standing around wasting time waiting for people who don't care about your schedule or being efficient with your time (and they probably aren't).

On the other hand, when you fly on a private jet, there's no waiting in line because there's no need for it—there's no security check and no long lines at check-in either! Instead of having to navigate through crowds of people looking for their gate number or fighting off their kids as they cry over missing their favourite toy from home; you'll have plenty of time before takeoff so that when it comes time for takeoff these important steps can be taken:

• Arrange for any last-minute meetings/conferences if needed beforehand (so nothing will get missed)

• Review all notes from previous meetings/conference calls so everything feels fresh in mind once again.

Business Impact.

Private jets are a great option for business travel. They can help your company save time and money.

Private jet charters can be more cost-effective than commercial flights as they allow you to fly on smaller, more efficient aircraft. Private jets also allow you to arrive at meetings on time because they have fewer delays than commercial flights and they don't have to wait in line at an airport gate like a commercial flight would have to do before takeoff.

Stress Reduction.

The first and most obvious benefit of private jets is the fact that you can avoid the stress of commercial air travel. In many cases, you’ll be able to avoid security lines, baggage fees and delays completely. You also won’t have to wait for your flight or go through security again when you arrive at your destination.

Whether it's a business trip or a vacation, having a private jet means no lost time waiting for planes or dealing with baggage claim issues when you land.

Time Management.

The main reason why people use private jets is to save time. By flying in a private jet you can avoid traffic, delays and the hassle of going through security at an airport. This means that by using a private jet you will get to your destination faster than if you were taking public transportation or even driving yourself there.

With all of the time saved on getting from point A to point B, one might think that this would be enough reason for someone to use this type of jet but there are other reasons as well.

Private jet charter provides the highest levels of convenience, productivity and comfort to executive teams.

A private jet charter is the ultimate in convenience for your business travel needs. You can schedule your flights to coincide with other activities, such as meetings or conferences, rather than having to book flights around them. This allows you greater flexibility in how and when you get from point A to point B, which is important for reducing stress and managing time better. With a private jet charter flight, there is no need to wait at the airport for an extended period of time before departure; instead, you will arrive at approximately the same time as if you were on an airline flight. In addition, there are no delays caused by weather or mechanical problems since these types of issues don't affect private aircraft.

Roundup

We hope that this article has given you a better understanding of why companies use private jets. While we can’t speak for every company in the world, it is clear that many executives are turning to private jet charter services to better manage their time, reduce stress and increase productivity. The Long Range Private Jets

Comment

The Long Range Private Jets

With the popularity of private aviation on the rise, knowing what jet you're planning to charter (or even own) is critical. While comfort, speed, and expense are all crucial considerations, the range is necessary, with the longest-range private planes frequently being the most sought-after. After all, what's the purpose of flying at peak speed if you have to land halfway through your route to refuel?

The range of a plane is measured in nautical miles (nm). If your travels take you across the world frequently, whether for business or pleasure, the range should be at the top of your priority list when selecting a private aircraft. A plane's maximum range is greatly influenced by a variety of parameters such as:

  • on-board weight,

  • fuel capacity, and

  • wind conditions

The Benefits of Long Range Private Jets

The Long Range Jet is not always the most affordable alternative for someone needing a private jet. However, there is a significant difference between this type of private jet and others, such as light jets and medium planes. The long and ultra-long-range aircraft is the fastest and largest jets that can transport the most people, often 14-16. Here are the key benefits:

Speed

Because their speed is substantially faster than midsize and super-midsize jets, these types of jets can create more power and move faster. Most long-range planes have a top speed of 500 knots.

Range

The rationale for this premium category is, of course, aircraft range. Choosing the correct long-range aircraft eliminates the need for refuelling stops, missed connections, and misplaced luggage. Most long-distance charter aircraft have a minimum range of 5,100 nautical miles. This is great for a private international flight.

Size

One factor that makes this category appealing is the size of the long-range planes. Members of a team or a large number of employees might travel aboard the same aircraft. This is something that cannot happen with midrange or light planes due to their smaller size.

Luxury & Comfort

Another distinguishing feature of long-range jets is not only their size or range but also the sumptuous interior of the aircraft. When most people think of a private aircraft, they envision one with a gorgeous design and beautiful furnishings.

Long-range plans have a wide, roomy, and highly comfortable cabin with VIP seats that, depending on the model, can be converted into beds. These planes include onboard VIP food and video entertainment facilities, Wi-Fi, and a satellite phone.

Top 5 Longest Range Private Jets

Top 5 Longest Range Private Jets

Private planes are synonymous of luxury, comfort, and exclusivity, but we consider them the most efficient means of transportation, saving you time and money. That appears to be the easiest route to get from point A to point B, correct?

This post will look at the private aircraft with the best range on the market right now.

Boeing Business Jet 777X

The twin-engine Boeing Business Jet 777X has been dubbed the world's longest-range private jet.

Launched in late 2018, Boeing Business Jet 777X is now the most extended-range private jet, dramatically raising the bar in the private aviation business. Capable of flying over 11,500 miles before needing to refuel, the aircraft's extraordinarily large range allows it to fly between any two cities on the planet without stopping.

Range: 11,500 nautical miles

Number of Passengers: Up to 335 passengers (Depending on the interior design)

Falcon 8X by Dassault

The new Dassault Falcon has more extensive ranges, 500nm more than its predecessor, and improved efficiency. The Dassault Falcon 8X was designed to be comfortable without sacrificing space. The smaller size of this business jet is an advantage, allowing the Falcon 8X to take off and land at smaller airports, allowing you to access those difficult-to-reach places.

Range: 6,450 nautical miles

Number of Passengers: Up to 19 passengers

Cessna Citation Longitude

Cessna's famous business jet has a total range of 3,500 nautical miles, which is far less than the other planes on our list, but it is still a transatlantic range, which should be plenty for most of us. Cessna's Citation Longitude is the ideal mid-size private jet for coast-to-coast travels, offering a comfortable flying experience for up to 12 people.

The peak speed of 548 mph isn't particularly astounding, but this Cessna aircraft is all about efficiency and comfort. This plane's interior features a beautiful design motif, with high-quality furnishings in organic and earthy tones, creating a peaceful mood all around.

Range: 3,500 nautical miles

Number of Passengers: Up to 12 passengers

Gulfstream G650ER

Gulfstream has been renowned as the market leader in excellent private planes for many years. Before we begin, just close your eyes and picture yourself in a sensual paradise. Exploring the golden coastline and crystal waves crashing onto the shore. If you would like this dream to come true, I recommend a trip to Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucia has grown to become one of the most popular Caribbean destinations in the world. This stunning Caribbean island is known for sun-toasted beaches, stunning landscapes covered by the towering twin Pitons and a warm Saint Lucia welcome. But there is so much more to explore.

So, if you haven't already visited this unforgettable paradise island, we have put together a list that will definitely put Saint Lucia first on your bucket list. So let’s begin with the introduction, shall we?

WHERE IS Saint LUCIA?

Saint Lucia, an island state in the Caribbean Sea. It is the second largest of the Windward group in the Lesser Antilles and is located about 24 miles south of Martinique and some 21 miles northeast of Saint Vincent.

The peak time to travel - HIGH and LOW Season

The best time to visit Saint Lucia is in the high season, from Mid-December to Mid-April. During this season, you'll experience the most of the tropical sunshine, which is great if you fancy a beach holiday. If you are looking for a more laid-back vibe, the 'wet' season is probably will be your best pick during the months of June to November.

WHAT TO TRY AND WHERE TO EAT

ARE YOU REALLY ON HOLIDAY IF YOU TRY LOCAL CUISINE?

There are plenty of dishes that you will enjoy in St Lucia. Many of the dishes are loaded with cultural influence, including British and French cuisine. Many meals are infused with herbs and spices that will tickle your taste buds.

Lambi

Conch is popular in the Caribbean, and in Saint Lucia, this traditional meal is often referred to as lambi. The preparation style varies island by island, and in Saint Lucia the dish is often made Creole style, which involves the conch meat being seasoned with lots of spices, and then pan-fried. Lambi is popular with both locals and visitors, and worth a taste while on the island.

Pepperpot

Pepperpot is another favoured Caribbean dish, a particular dish that will probably want to make yourself once you return home. However, the name may suggest otherwise, pepperpot isn’t particularly a spicy dish, but peppers are often used including for flavouring. Other ingredients include onions, garlic, cinnamon, brown sugar, thyme, cloves, orange peel, cassareep and more. Various meats are often included in pepperpot recipes, including cow foot, oxtail, turkey, beef, goat meat, and pork.

Fried Plantains

Fried plantains are addictive, and you’ll find this Caribbean staple on your dish at many local restaurants in Saint Lucia. Whether you just want something to nibble on or a delicious side dish that can be combined into anything from steamed fish dishes to jerk or barbequed meals, fried plantain is sure to hit the spot.

Restaurants

Pink Plantation House

Pink Plantation House is a Creole restaurant overlooking Castries in St. Lucia. The house and art gallery themselves are worth a visit. With the pink, wooden colonial house hidden in the gardens, you'll feel like you've been transported back in time.

From the famous pumpkin soup, which will probably be the best thing you have ever tasted, to fresh locally caught Mahi Mahi, with Creole sauce and sides of roasted vegetables, saffron rice, breadfruit fries, savoury lentils, and more, your tastebuds will get completely spoilt.

The Rum Cave - marigot bay resort

Boasting an intimate and relaxing atmosphere, The Rum Cave is a favourite for enjoying light bites for dinner. With live music some evenings, you can enjoy your meal while listening and watching the local bands perform. Drink up the authentic Caribbean atmosphere as you wine and dine with your loved ones overlooking the beautifully lit lagoon.

The Coal Pot is a waterside restaurant overlooking Vigie Marina in Castries, which is just a few minutes away from the cruise ship port. The popular restaurant is named after the traditional Caribbean cooking methods, The Coal Pot combines tradition and modern dining to give you some of the best seafood on the island.

How Will the Weather Effect My Private Jet Flight?

How Will the Weather Effect My Private Jet Flight?

Many passengers have experienced the fear of having their flights delayed due to severe weather. There may be minor weather conditions, such as passing rain or snow, but it does not seem severe enough to cause a flight delay or cancellation. So, what's the hold-up?

Weather conditions, no matter how minor they seem, may cause safety problems for commercial and private jet charter flights.

On the other hand, private jets may provide more flexibility in how weather impacts flights.

CHANGES TO FLIGHTS INSTEAD OF GROUNDING FLIGHTS

Private jet operations are much more adaptable than commercial carriers. They also tend to fly out of smaller airports. Many of the delays experienced by airlines are caused by airport regulations or inadequate capacity. Private planes may avoid this at smaller airports and even significantly shift itineraries if necessary.

Weather factors often influence route decisions and flight length behind the scenes. Flights will be planned to avoid bad weather or take advantage of favorable wind (or jet stream) conditions. Aircraft can fly safely in most weather circumstances; however, depending on the conditions of the day, they may take a different route or fly at an extra height.

Sun and Heat

Aircraft can fly safely in hot, sunny weather. The equipment is unaffected by high temperatures (up to 53C, depending on the aircraft type). However, a high air temperature affects the aircraft's performance. The aeroplane's aerodynamics are impacted because the heated air is less dense. High temperatures may affect motor performance.

Snow and Ice

The biggest difficulties for a private jet flight in very cold weather occur on the ground. Once in the air, aircraft are extremely well-designed to withstand frigid temperatures and precipitation. Temperatures at 30,000 feet may drop to -80 degrees Celsius or even -100 degrees Celsius.

When it comes to ice or snow, the main concern is the airport's runway and taxiway state. For all private jet flights, de-icing is a legal and safety necessity.

Private aircraft are less affected by severe snowfall than airline flights since they may utilise smaller airports where snow clearance and de-icing can frequently occur faster than at big hubs. There is a significantly smaller area of the taxiway to maintain and fewer planes to avoid.

And, if all aircraft are grounded due to heavy snow, the agility of private charter means that flights may resume regular operations as soon as limitations are removed. At the same time, airline timetables can need days to recuperate.

Fog

Fog and low visibility impact any aircraft, even private jets, and may cause flight delays. Fog is often patchy and unpredictable, affecting some airports while leaving others clear. As with snow, a private jet flight allows for last-minute changes of the plan during foggy weather, discovering openings in the fog and re-routing the aircraft appropriately - an option that airlines do not have.

When visibility at an airport falls below 1,500 metres (referred to as RVR by pilots and airports), the airport implements Low Visibility Procedures (LVPs). Air Traffic Control will minimise the number of aircraft taxing and taking off during LVPs to avoid accidents and problems.

Wind

Wind speed and direction may alter flight times and generate turbulence. A tailwind may drive the jet and shorten flight times, while a headwind can increase and shorten flight times. Wind gusts that change direction fast may also generate hazardous circumstances and increase turbulence. Although pilots are thoroughly educated to take corrective steps in strong winds, they may pose a safety risk and must be considered for each private trip.

Rain

Rain may have a range of effects on an aeroplane. The rain mostly reduces vision via the windshield. Rain and precipitation fall off the windscreen during flight, providing an excellent solution. However, the rain and water do not evaporate as quickly at slower rates.

Private planes are outfitted with several ways of removing water from windshields. Windshield wipers, like the ones in your automobile, are the most prevalent. Pressurized air that sweeps rain off the glass in brief bursts is common on higher-end planes. Recently, unique hydrophobic coatings for private aeroplane windshields have been developed, allowing water to drain away.

Thunderstorms

Thunderstorm clouds, speaking of turbulence, might impact the comfort of your trip. During the summer, cumulonimbus clouds are a factor. If you've ever taken a commercial flight, you know how choppy the air can be. These smaller private jets are well-equipped to deal with violent rainstorms. Private planes, unlike huge airlines, may increase their climb speeds to reach above the thunderstorm clouds. You may experience some turbulence, but your jet crew will do everything possible to fly around the storm, even if it takes a longer approach to your destination.

What Is the Perfect Weather to Fly?

The optimum conditions for flying are clear days with a soft breeze. This sort of weather, in addition to making the journey more comfortable, enables you to relax and enjoy the luxury of the trip.

Yes, the weather may impact your private jet flight, but there is no need to be concerned about flying in a tiny plane. Your pilot and crew are prepared for wind, rain, and snow. While you may be delayed or experience turbulence, private planes are better equipped to fly in bad weather. If there is poor weather in the vicinity, using a private aircraft versus a commercial airline will make you feel less affected.

Private jet charters are the state-of-the-art mode of transportation worldwide. If you want to experience this luxury for yourself, book your next journey with Astute Aviation.

Best Beaches in the World

Best Beaches in the World

The sound of waves washing against the shore, sand crumbling under your feet, and the warm sun kissing your skin. If that sounds nice to you, then maybe now is the time to pack your swimming trunks, slather yourself in sunscreen, and hit the beach.

The ocean covers more than 70 per cent of Earth's surface, meaning our planet is home to thousands upon thousands of stunning beaches, so choosing the very best piece of sandy real estate in the world is slightly subjective, but we have gone to great lengths to compile a list of the some of the best beaches in the world.

So, whether you're seeking solitude or a party, shallow waters or pounding waves, find the perfect beach from the grassy dunes of Denmark to the rugged coastline of Iceland, the tropical beaches of Seychelles to the crystal-clear waters of Greece; here are some of the best beaches in the world.

Anse Source d'Argent, Seychelles

Famed for being one of the most photographed beaches on the planet (and appearing in the original Bounty advert), Anse Source d'Argent is a sight to behold. Its pink-hued sands are lapped by shallow emerald waters, bookended by large granite boulders and shaded by craning coconut palms. This secluded cove, located on the southwest coast of La Digue, is one of the Seychelles' most famous attractions and one of the most picturesque beaches anywhere in the world.

It is not, by any stretch, deserted, getting crowded later in the day when the sun is at its highest. If you visit early in the morning, you'll get there before the daytrippers from Mahé and Praslin. For your own pocket of paradise, walk southwards through the shallows past the first set of boulders. The bay opens up for added breathing space.

Unless you are willing to wade through the island's watery depths, you'll need to pass through the old L'Union Estate coconut plantation to access the beach, which has an entrance fee of SCR 100 (£6.47). We suggest you stop by and say hello to the friendly giant Aldabra Tortoises housed at the enclosure. Large tortoises are among the longest-lived animals, with some Aldabra giant tortoises having lived over 200 years. If you want to get further out to sea, why not experience the Robinson Crusoe kayak tour, which takes place in 100% transparent kayaks. The transparent kayaks allow visitors to discover and explore the marine life below while enjoying the breathtaking scenery and panoramic views of the coastline and granite rock formations.

Dune du Pyla, France

At the entrance to Arcachon Bay, near the commune of La Teste de Buch, the Dune du Pyla is Europe's largest sand dune, towering at over 100 meters. In fact, it continues to move, up to 5m a year, as the particles of sand - up to 60 million cubic metres - are blown upwards by the wind.

During the summer, the beach is cloaked in a shimmering heat haze, giving the illusion that this sprawling French beach is scattered with gleaming treasure. The sand is as finely milled as flesh flour, perfect for rolling down to the tussocky shoreline and standing to gaze at the pine forests behind the beach. After you have taken in the panoramic views of the Atlantic, there are miles of beaches along the Bassin d'Arcachon that are ripe for exploring. You'll find a jumble of huts along the beaches where fishermen set up tables to sell oysters, pâté and prawns.

While you can climb the dune on the soft sand, unless you're extremely fit, we suggest you take the wooden steps that have been built on the steeper inland side. You can also descend via the steps or do as most people and either run full pelt down the dune or roll the way down it - something which is particularly popular among children. The fastest and most exciting way to get to the beach is to surf down on a bodyboard or, if you are particularly adventurous, paraglide down.

Glass Beach, California

A beach made from years of dumped litter may not sound particularly appealing, but at Glass Beach, on the Mendocino coast in California, the result is remarkably beautiful. From 1906 to 1967, glass, appliances, and even vehicles were chucked into the ocean only to be washed ashore years later. When dumping was prohibited in the late 1960s, cleaning programs took place across the West Coast, removing all metal and non-biodegradable waste. The natural pounding force of the waves began to break apart the glass debris and smoothen it before washing ashore as jewel-like translucent stones.

Today the beaches are wonderlands of completely smooth 'sea glass' - shards of broken bottles, windows, and other glass debris that have been worn down over the decades by the rolling surf. While it may not be the best beach for sunbathing, it is quite a sight to behold. Don't let the name put you off; the beach is perfectly safe, with no fear of cutting yourself on a shard of broken glass.

In 2002 the land was sold to State Parks and opened formally as a part of MacKerricher State Park. As one of the few remaining deposits of sea glass still left in the United States, it is well worth a visit for a unique experience. While the glass has depleted over the years due to visitors taking the pebbles home, the kaleidoscopic effect of a multicoloured beach remains.

Søndervig Beach, Denmark

White, wide sand beaches with the roaring North Sea surrounded by giant grassy dunes; Søndervig beach is different from other beaches in that it is rich in history. If you were to stand atop the grassy dune to take in the grand panorama of Søndervig, you would see numerous bunkers dotted along the coast, remnants from the Second World War. The Axis forces built them as part of the Atlantic rampart to protect the German army against an Allied invasion. While the bunkers were initially built several hundred metres up in the dunes, the sea has since eroded the coast and laid bare the bunkers, so almost all are now down on the beaches. Rumour has it some of the bunkers are still well hidden up in the dunes, and it can be fun to try and find them. Although some of them are on private property, so you need permission from the owner to go exploring. While the bunkers are fascinating to explore, they are incredibly old, so you must be cautious when examining them. You should also be careful when swimming because some bunkers are underwater. If you want to get close to the bunkers and learn about their history, you can enjoy a guided tour.

Not too far from the beach, you will find the town of Søndervig, which also has a rich history. The town has been the most visited beach town in Denmark since the 19th century, offering cosy shops, quaint restaurants, holiday homes and, of course, its fantastic beach.

Playa del Amor (Hidden Beach), Mexico

A gaping hole in the surface of a lush green island opens onto a secret beach with ample shade, sun, and crystal-clear water. Playa del Amor, locally known as the Hidden Beach, sounds like something out of an adventure novel: a wide, sandy cavern with the azure waters of the Pacific rushing in. The origins of the beach are shrouded in mystery, but the Marietas Islands were used as a military testing ground by the Mexican government throughout the 1900s, so it is widely believed that an explosion may have created the crater in which the beach sits.

The Hidden Beach is invisible from the outside and is only accessible by swimming through a long water tunnel. Don't worry; this special swim has a few feet of air above your head, and it's all part of the adventure! Once you've crossed through, you'll find yourself in paradise.

While the islands themselves remain uninhabited, they are frequently visited by tourists who come to enjoy the diverse marine life and the unique tropical Eden of Playa del Amor. While Hidden Beach is no longer a secret, becoming one of the most desirable places to visit for travellers around the world, the Mexican government has been restricting access to preserve the island's flora and fauna and prevent erosion of the coral reefs below. We recommend booking with Mike's Charters and Tours or Vallarta Adventures for private eco excursions, hidden beach visits, snorkelling and even some onboard pampering. If you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a humpback whale.

Ses Salines, Ibiza

Ses Salines is a place of lush beauty, a wide crescent of pale sandy beach bordered by pine woods with crystal clear waters and breakers that appear on windy days, perfect for body-surfing. Small catamarans sit on the sand at the southern-most end of the beach. While walking towards the pirate tower, you will pass a string of popular bars and restaurants that play a quality selection of dance and Balearic music, which spills out onto the beach and often brings cocktails and food orders out to you on the sand!

Although set within a peaceful nature reserve, this little piece of paradise comes with a soundtrack of gently thudding bass drums, with a licensed to party to go on until sunset. Bikini-clad dancers mingle with sunbathers on the delicate soft sand as the sun dips towards the horizon.

It is common to watch a parade of models stroll with their sculpted bodies while their footballer boyfriends show off their skills. Ses Salines is a popular beach, particularly for the rich and famous, who flock here to enjoy this jewel of the Mediterranean and bathe in its privileged waters. Those seeking something a little more intimate will be happy to know that the secret beaches of Punta de Ses Portes are just a short stroll along a footpath from the far end of the beach. Although, you may want to avert your eyes when encountering the nudists who frequent the shores. For those of you after something a little more exclusive, try Melon Bomb DJs' secret parties at the Jockey Club for an afternoon of classic, bouncy house.

Yyteri, Pori, Finland

If you were to picture a beach holiday, Finland probably would not be the first country to come to mind. Yet the Nordic country is home to one of its finest stretches of coastline in northern Europe. Yteri beach is a 5km stretch of powder-soft sand backed by dunes and pine forests. During the summer, the shallow waters of the Baltic are surprisingly warm, and the offshore breezes attract surfers from across Scandinavia.

Being so close to the Bothnian Sea National Park, the beach and its surrounding area are protected, with one of the cleanest beaches and oceans in Europe. The beach is also frequently visited by rare seabirds, especially during the migration seasons, with several observation towers and bird-watching huts set up to spot them.

While many go to the beach to relax, Yyteri is a paradise for water and beach sports enthusiasts. Activities include beach volleyball, horseback riding, canoeing, fishing and many others. Yyteri is especially famous for the small but passionate Finnish surfing movement as one of the best destinations in the whole of Scandinavia for surfing. The waters are some of the warmest in the Baltics at around 20° Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) during the summer. Surf shops are typically open during summer for rentals of surfboards, mountain bikes, and other sports equipment.

Vestrahorn Beach, Iceland

When one envisions going to the beach, one might picture a tropical island with wild azure waters and strips of golden sand tucked away by palm trees and small huts. The beaches of Iceland, however, are much more enigmatic. As an island at the Arctic's edge, Iceland exhibits many enchanting beaches that circumvent its coastline.

On the headland of Stokksnes in the desolate East Fjords region, you will find a magnificent black beach that unfurls in front of Mount Vestrahorn—one of Iceland's rare gabbro rock mountains. This panoramic beach is every photographer's dream, as natural forces continually shape the landscape yielding different scenic results.

Exploring the beach, you'll find a Viking village made for a film set that got abandoned, remains of a NATO radar station, an ancient shipwreck and a small lighthouse. On the shore, you'll find lava dunes coated with deep-green grass, while the wet sand reflects the dramatic mountain that looms large over this natural wonder. While admiring all of this natural splendour, remember to respect the environment; incautious visitors have sometimes trampled the grass that serves to protect the dunes.

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos, Greece

As one of the world's most famous, picturesque beaches, you will have undoubtedly seen the sandy shores of Naviago Beach before as its photograph is widely used to inspire and entice people into taking the tropical holiday escape of their dreams.

Also known as Shipwreck Cove on account of the rusted freighter buried at its centre, Navagio is easily the most beautiful stretch of sand in Greece. It is sheltered by sheer limestone cliffs and is so isolated that you can only reach it by boat. While you could easily spend all day sunning on its powdery sands, its beauty is best appreciated from the viewing platform on the cliffs above - simply follow the signs to the Agios Gergio Kremnao monastery.

While Navagio Beach is famous for its impossibly blue Ionian water and the blindingly white pebbly sand, it is most famous for the ghostly remains of the Panagiotis stranded on its shores. Legend has it that it was a smuggler's ship working on behalf of the Italian Mafia. The boat is believed to have been smuggling cigarettes from Turkey when it was spotted and pursued by the Greek Navy off the shores of Zakynthos. Unfortunately, the ship ran on shallow ground, and the sailors were forced to abandon ship, and she naturally ended up in the centre of Navagio.

While this story does add excitement to the location, any sceptic would be quick to point out how perfectly the ship fits into the beach, and now it's a common belief that the shipwreck was planted there instead to promote tourism. Either way, it is certainly a sight to behold.

Top Trends in Private Jet Travel Demand In 2022

Due to the widespread of COVID-19, many private aircraft owners and pilots have altered their routines. Following the first repercussions of COVID-19 in early 2020, frequent commercial and private travellers opted to abandon flying and travel in general.

As more companies and places reopen, aircraft owners have had to adapt to their clients' new safety expectations and concerns. As corporations react to recent troubles, the private jet industry is expected to evolve.

If you're considering booking a private jet, you may want to read more about COVID-19's influence on private aviation in 2020, as well as the private aviation trends for the rest of 2022 that might affect your travel.

51% of private jet customers intend to travel more in 2022.

According to a recent study of 452 Private Jet Card Comparisons customers, private jet flyers want to fly more in 2022 than in 2021.

Subscribers to the buyer's guide, which assists customers in determining the finest private aviation solutions, said they would travel more in the following 12 months than in 2021.

  • 41% stated they would travel the same amount as last year

  • just 9% said they would fly less.

Most mentioned convenience, bad airline service, connection, and COVID concerns as reasons to continue travelling privately.

Extra Sanitation Efforts

Because flyers are increasingly worried about cleanliness, and private aviation businesses want to keep their customers safe, the private jet charter sector has prioritised sanitation. Private planes are significantly simpler to keep clean by nature since there are fewer people to care for and more room to maintain social distance while on board. Expect business aircraft firms to emphasise the ease of social separation on their trips.

Aside from social separation, private jet charter firms are anticipated to prioritise higher cleanliness standards within private aircraft and at private terminals and FBO (fixed-base operator) facilities to attract consumers seeking sterile settings.

Price fluctuates in the charter market.

More variable pricing in the on-demand charter market is a definite trend that began in 2021 and is expected to continue this year. You charter (or rent) an aircraft for a one-time journey when you fly on-demand. This implies that the operator will price the trip based on current market circumstances at the time of booking. When demand is great, supply is low—it pushes costs and limits aircraft options.

Increased business travel.

In contrast to the commercial sector, business aviation saw a slight decline in demand during the outbreak. Corporate aviation started to recover far sooner than the retail sector despite decreasing passenger numbers. Because business aviation provides flyers with more flexibility, efficiency, and a wider selection of locations, demand for business air travel is expected to rise into 2022.

Globally, business aviation trends in 2022 look more promising than commercial aviation patterns, with private jet operations growing by 38% in the first half of 2022 compared to the first half of 2021.

More long-distance travel.

Even though the pandemic is still causing some uncertainty, the desire to go out and explore again is strong. Private jet flight volumes reached new highs in 2021. Although most of this was for short to mid-range travel within Europe, towards the end of the year, requests for longer-distance journeys were observed, which we may anticipate continuing in the coming months.

A greater emphasis on sustainability in private aviation.

Along with increased demand for private aircraft, there is a greater understanding of the environmental effect of flying. Clients want to travel with a supplier that can assess and reduce their flight emissions while providing a long-term, ethical approach to sustainability.

CO2 emissions were 40% lower in 2021 than before the outbreak. More CO2 emissions are projected this year as more flights are likely to occur. More operators are focusing on sustainability these days, and airlines are developing strategies to meet the net-zero aim by 2050.

One such approach is to use sustainable aviation fuel. For the time being, it is created from vegetable oil, but in the future, it is expected to be made from waste.

Electric aircraft research is also advancing in order to create a more sustainable aviation sector. We anticipate hearing more from entrepreneurs in this attractive area.

Best Summer Holiday Destinations 2022

This summer is set to be one to remember.

Most Britons have been itching to jet away for the past two years. Last summer, the pandemic deterred many people from travelling abroad, instead of spending their summer holidays exploring the British isles. As beautiful as parts of Britain are, it is simply not the same as travelling abroad.

Thankfully, the pandemic is now in the rear-view mirror, and following the Covid-stricken summers of 2020 and 2021, we can travel abroad once more. With most countries having eased, and in many cases wholly removed, travel restrictions, it is once more safe to travel.

So, dust off your passports, pack your bags, and prepare to embark on an adventure you are unlikely to forget.

Here are the best summer destinations for 2022.

CORSICA, FRANCE

Placed between France and Italy - and with Sardinia to its South - Corsica is the fourth-largest island in the Meditteranean and presents a mix of stylish coastal towns, dense forest and craggy peaks. Lovingly referred to as L’Île de Beauté – the Isle of Beauty – a moniker it more than lives up to, Corsica will enthral visitors with its stunning natural landscapes, charming old villages and array of gorgeous beaches.

To truly experience Corsica's beauty, you need to see it from the waters encompassing the island. Book a yachty for the day and visit the fantastic snorkelling and diving sites, hidden bays, and remote colourful towns. Venture a little further out to sea to spot the many species of dolphins and whales that call the waters around Corsica home. The Pelagos Sanctuary - which covers nearly 90,000sqkm of the marine space surrounding Corsica – is home to a wide variety of the cetacean family. The protected area means Corsica is also a great place for avid divers to see the marine life of the Meditteranean up close and personal.

Being caught between France and Italy, countries renowned for their viticulture industries, it is little wonder that Corsica also has a thriving winemaking culture. A mild climate means the island has excellent harvesting and produces a slew of exquisite wines. There are three main types of grapes grown here: Vermentino, a light-skinned wine grape variety producing dry wine; Sangiovese, a red wine grape variety that produces sweet wine; and Sciacarello, a unique red grape indigenous to Corsica. If you consider yourself a wine connoisseur, you have to book a wine tasting tour - be sure to pick one that serves its wine alongside local meats and cheeses for a truly spectacular wine tasting experience.

When you're not exploring, diving, or sampling various vinos, it's time to relax by the beach - and fortunately, Corsica has many pristine spots to choose from. The popular Calvi beach has glorious views of the Citadel, while the more secluded Loto Bach has gorgeous cerulean waters. Palombaggi Beach is romantic and private, hidden by pretty pine forests. For peace and quiet, head west to the wild Cupabia Beach, which you will likely have all to yourselves.

LAKE COMO, ITALY

A place of glorious sunshine and gentle pleasure, Lago di Como has long been one of the more glamorous travel destinations. Ancient villas that once belonged to the crème de la crème of Italian aristocracy still skirt the longshore with modern-day residents, including the likes of George Clooney, Madonna, and Giovanni Versace. Despite its reputation for luxury and glamour, Lake Como is perfectly accessible with plenty to enjoy for travellers on a more modest budget.

Lake Como may be best known for its verdant cypress shores and romantic vistas; it is also known for its impeccable architecture dating back centuries. Nestled on the southern point of Lake Como, Como is the largest city on the lake’s shores. Here you will find Como’s iconic cathedral, Duomo, an iconic 14th-century Gothic and Renaissance cathedral that remains as pristine and gorgeous as it was when it was first built. Elsewhere, you will find the neoclassical Tempio Voltiano, a museum dedicated to the work of physicist Alessandro Volta. The museum houses some of the original equipment used during Volta’s monumental research, and the building is as impressive as his legacy. Afterwards, take a gander at the nearby Villa Olmo, which has some of the most luscious gardens in the whole of Italy. Finally, for some great views, ramble up towards Castello Baradello. From these medieval ruins, you will see all across Lake Como.

You would be remised if you travelled to Lake Como and did not take a cruise along its shimmering waves. Lake Como, also known as Lario, is the third largest of Italian lakes and one of the deepest lakes in Europe. Its characteristic shape, reminiscent of an inverted Y, results from the melting of glaciers combined with the erosive action of the ancient Adda river. Sail the crystal-clear waters of the lake on board a sailing boat. In Alto Lario, you will find many sailing clubs that offer courses for beginners and experienced sailors alike.

Lake Como is ripe for exploration, with forested mountains providing excellent hiking opportunities and extraordinary views. As with anywhere else in Italy, it has an incredible array of wine and foods that will leave you salivating. Lake Como is perfect for those passionate about photography, architecture, and nature.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY

Napoleon Bonaparte reportedly said, "If the world was only one country, Istanbul would be its capital." Travellers throughout the ages have shared this sentiment. Istanbul has always been a rich mosaic of people, religions and cultures. Spread across two continents, this transcontinental metropolis is a fast-paced cultural melting pot. Admired all over the world for its charming architecture and lively atmosphere, Istanbul is a city of contrasts. Istanbul is where east meets west. Century-old buildings stand next to modern skyscrapers. Mosques, churches and synagogues can be found side by side. Istanbul is a dynamic and vibrant city that epitomises dynamic and modern city life.

Istanbul has over 2500 years of unique historical and cultural riches. Ottoman palaces, Byzantine castle fortresses and Roman-era obelisks are just some of the historical sites you will find scattered around Istanbul. Some examples of Istanbul's grandeur include the Hagia Sofia Museum. This architectural masterpiece once served as a Byzantine church, an Ottoman mosque, and the 17th-century Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque for its illustrious interior tile decorations, grey cascading domes and six minarets.

Bazaars are another huge part of Turkey's national identity, and the labyrinthine Grand Bazaar is the beating heart of Istanbul. Visitors can spend hours bargaining for decorative tiles, handwoven rugs, antiques, jewellery and scarves, and much more. Turkish baths, locally known as hammams, have played an important role in city life in Istanbul since Roman times. These institutions served as social hubs for men and women to socialise. Today, visitors include both enthusiastic visitors keen to experience the cleansing rituals offered here and nostalgic residents reminiscing about times gone by.

Besides the stunning architecture and rich history, Istanbul is a hub of gastronomical experimentation, and chefs here are renowned for creating exquisite new dishes based on traditional Turkish recipes. Spend the day experiencing street-food classics such as simit, sesame-encrusted bagels ubiquitous across the country, midye dolma, mussels mixed with seasoned rice and lemon juice, and doner kebabs cooked on rotating spits. In the evening, relax at one of the many rooftop bars scattered across the city. 5 Kat offers some of the best panoramas of both continents, along with excellent service, food and drinks. Alexandra Cocktail Bar mixes up some of the best cocktails in Europe and Asia while offering a stunning view of the iconic Bosphorus. The bar and the neighbourhood generally provide a more laid-back vibe, making it the perfect spot to escape the bustling crowds.

FLORIDA, UNITED STATES

Florida has been a mainstay of American tourism for the past few decades, and it is obvious why. The Sunshine State is well deserving of its nickname, offering incredible weather all year round. Florida is home to hundreds of miles of stunning beaches, world-famous amusement parks and water parks, vibrant and lively nightlife, and a vast array of unique tourist attractions that make it a one-of-a-kind holiday destination.

Orlando, in particular, is famous for its theme parks. At Universal Orlando Resort™, you can explore the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, strolling through Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley. If you are lucky, maybe you will get to play a game of Quidditch while enjoying a pint of Butterbeer. For animal lovers, SeaWorld offers an opportunity to watch waddling penguins, explore a dolphin nursery, and, for those brave enough, a passage through a glass tunnel in a shark aquarium. Less we forget, Disney World! The cast of Disney characters draws millions of families from around the globe to Orlando year after year. For thrill-seekers, Disneyland has a half-dozen roller coasters, each with its own distinctive design. Away from the theme parks, families can shop till they drop at outlet malls or spend the day relaxing by one of the state's many beaches. Those without little ones can explore Orlando's revitalized nightlife and restaurant scenes in the downtown area. Long after the theme parks close, the nightlife in Florida is pulsating with dance clubs. Miami Beach is known for its dazzling nightclubs such as LIVClubspaceStory, and E11EVEN — much like the heat of this tropical state, parties here never stop.

The Florida peninsula is rich with wildlife. The sawgrass marshes and mangrove forests of the Everglades are home to over 350 species of bird, 27 different kinds of snakes, the bottlenose dolphin, alligators, crocodiles and the Florida panther. So, whatever you do, stay close to your tour guide! Florida is also popular for ornithophily, with bird-watching possible in over 500 locations across the state. Keep an eye out for the reddish egret, roseate spoonbill, anhinga, both species of night-herons, black-whiskered vireo, grey kingbird, and mangrove cuckoo.

KRAKOW, POLAND

From long sunny walks through the old town to basking in the sun on the banks of the Vistula River, summer in Krakow is brimming with pleasurable activities. Enjoy the beer gardens until late in the evening and be greeted by sunshine when you walk out of a club at 6 a.m. Summer is the best time to visit Krakow.

Krakow had long floated under the radar; however, over the past few years, it has begun to be recognised as one of the top destinations in Europe. Tourists are more drawn to the Old Town than any other place in Krakow. Made famous as one of the first ever urban UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Krakow's Old Town is a maze of cobbled streets with historic merchant houses lining the pavements and sprawling squares where medieval churches and trading houses still loom above the flagstones. Another exciting part of Krakow, rich in history, is Kazimierz. Once the historic Jewish Quarter of Krakow, Kazimierz is nestled just south of the Old Town. A place of crumbling plaster and exposed brick, fusing the industrial with the Gothic, and synagogues and artisan beer houses side-by-side, it's a veritable hub of culture and vibrancy. It's also known for its raucous nightlife, with all-night drinking joints and more vodka bars than you can shake an empty shot glass at. Legend has it that Krakow has more bars and clubs packed into a small space than any other metro area in Europe. The town pulses everything from thumping discos to underground beer halls. There's also an excellent pub crawl in Krakow, along with opportunities for vodka tasting and trips to microbreweries.

As with any holiday destination, people look forward to enjoying the local cuisine and experiencing new dishes, and Krakow has some exquisite delicacies. While pierogi dumplings and Poland's meat-and-two-veg meals are available across the country, from salt-washed Gdansk on the Baltic to buzzing Warsaw, there's actually a cuisine of Lesser Poland that's unique to this southern town. As with many countries in Eastern Europe, Poland is famed for its meat, specifically sausages. Kiełbasa krakowska sucha staropolska is a long-lasting, smoked, cooked and dried sausage made with coarsely ground lean pork and spices with a strong flavour of cured, smoked meat, with distinctive peppery overtones and a delicate aftertaste of nutmeg and garlic. Cheese lovers should try the smoky sheep's cheese of the mountains and Redykołka, hard cheese made from half-fat sheep's milk in the Podhale region. Be sure to sample the crispy zapiekanki bread and the chewy pretzels of obwarzanek from the roadside stalls throughout Krakow.

Astute Destinations - Ibiza

Ibiza is a hedonistic paradise. This ruggedly beautiful island in the Mediterranean is best known as the Mecca of electronic dance music, with world-famous DJs travelling to the island to perform at its legendary nightclubs, chic beach clubs, and banging pool parties. Ibiza is indisputably the party capital of Europe.

Yet, there is a side to the White Isle that many people are unaware of. Away from the dance floor and pulsating crowds, this Volcanic island has ancient villages, sweeping beaches, and exquisite food. From the history of Ibiza Town, across the breathtaking view from Sa Talaiassa to the sandy beaches of Cala Llenya, Ibiza is packed with amazing sights, attractions and things to do.

So, if you haven't already visited this unforgettable island, we have put together a list that will definitely put Ibiza at the top of your bucket list.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

SPEND THE DAY AT ONE OF IBIZA’S STUNNING BEACHES

Ibiza beaches are among the best in the Mediterranean, and anybody who says otherwise clearly has never visited the White Isle. With beaches ranging from vast carpets of soft sand and inviting clear waters to rocky shores in rugged, unspoiled covers surrounded by cliffs, Ibiza has perfect spots for every kind of beachgoer. The environments surrounding the beaches also vary wildly; some are fronted by developed promenades filled with hotels and restaurants, while others only have small beach huts or "chinringuitos" selling snacks and drinks.

Cala Llonga is the best for families with its deep-set arc of soft sand, shallow waters, and abundance of activities to keep your children busy all day long. So, kick back and make the most of the picture-postcard views. And the cocktails you can buy at the nearby bars. For those who like to go for a paddle on a warm summer day, Cala Xarraca is the best for snorkelling. In a sheltered bay surrounded by rickety paths and pine forest, immersing yourself beneath the iridescent topaz water on hot days is bliss. So explore the subaquatic world before setting off in search of the naturally-occurring mud baths that lie to the right of the main beach.

If you consider yourself an adventurer, seek out Ses Balandres. With its wonky walkways, steep descent, and a rickety ladder that looks like it has seen better days, the route to Ses Balandres is a bona fide adventure. Still, your inner explorer will relish the challenge and the views once you get there are staggering. Whereas, if you enjoy a tipple and like to bust some moves, you must head to Las Salinas. Widely considered the best beach in Ibiza and certainly the most famous, Las Salinas is almost entirely populated by party goers and drunken revellers, especially once the music cranks up at one of its many beach bars. The parties at Sa Trinxa are a hedonist's heaven, and when the sun rises, enjoy an early morning breakfast at Jockey's Club.

TAKE PART IN WATER SPORTS

Everyone loves to relax while on holiday, putting their worries aside and relaxing by the ocean. Holidays are also an opportunity to participate in experiences you could not do elsewhere. Ibiza is a veritable paradise of aquatic sports, and whether you prefer more adrenaline-pounding activities or calming boat trips, Ibiza has it all.

Take an exhilarating jet ski ride over miles of crystalline waters while admiring the stunning views of beautiful cliffs and Ibiza's sun-soaked coastline. For a fantastic jet ski adventure, you can choose to take part in a guided tour of some of Ibiza's islets. The craggy limestone islet of Es Vedra is imbued with many myths and legends. Locally believed to be the birthplace of the Phoenician goddess Tanit, others claim it has unique magnetic powers, even attracting UFOs. One thing is certain, the island is an Ibizan landmark and is especially lovely when it's silhouetted against the setting sun. Join a jet ski tour to get a closer look.

Flyboarding has become one of the most exciting watersports and is hugely popular in Ibiza. Don't worry; it's not as complicated as it looks. When FlyBoarding, you are equipped with a pair of oversized boots powered by water jets propelling you into the sky. It doesn't require any physical strength or particular skill. If soaring through the air up to 10 metres high and flying over the water sounds exciting, then the flyboarding experience is the sport for you.

For those of you seeking something more relaxing and leisurely, why not go for an evening sail while enjoying one of Ibiza's many magical sunsets. The Sound of Sunset cruise is a fabulous way to take in the views and relax as scarlet streaks through the sky and the islands off the west coast are thrown into a jagged silhouette. A saxophonist and DJ set the tone on board as the wooden-decked party boat sails past San Antonio's famous Sunset Strip and, beyond, passing the enchanting coves of Cala Gracio and Cala Salada. Lounge beds with sun, shade or faded sun options are available, as is equipment for snorkelling and stand-up paddling. Canapés and a couple of glasses are included in the price, so why not end your day in style.

EXPLORE IBIZA'S OLD TOWN, DALT VILLA

When flying to Ibiza, look out the window and take in the spectacular views and mysterious aura of Dalt Vila. You will notice it immediately: a walled city perched atop a little hill, with a cathedral on the cliff top and the port at its feet. Its stones, alcoves, and buildings captivate all who venture into its narrow, cobbled streets. It is a residential area, evidenced by laundry flapping over the balconies and locals going about their day among tourists. But amongst the traditional white-washed houses, you will find a fascinating combination of art, style, culture and history. Ibiza's Old Town has something for everyone.

The town's history dates back 2,500 years when Phoenician and Muslim communities laid the foundation for the town's architectural style. It was not until the 16th century that the city began to resemble what it is today when engineer Juan Bautista Calvi, under the mandate of Philip II, took over the construction works, transforming the town into what became one of the most impressive and comprehensive fortresses in the world.

Scattered around the town, you'll find signage describing the history and meaning of the main historic highlights, including the strongholds used to defend the city from pirate and barbaric attacks centuries ago. Also nestled in Dalt Vila is the headquarters of the Council of Ibiza, the Museum of Archaeology, where you can learn about the island's history, the old town's vantage point and several churches, such as the Church of Santo Domingo, with its neighbouring cloistered convent.

In the evening, head down to the port for panoramic views and a refreshing glass of wine. Take a ringside seat and watch an endless procession of stilt walkers, fire breathers, dancers, outrageously clad club promoters and partygoers as they parade around the old fishing quarter of La Marina and Sa Penya. Browse the hippy stalls, bar hop, or head over to the gay-friendly Calle de la Virgen for cool music bars, boho boutiques — and fetish shops. We did say Ibiza's Old Town has something for everyone.

EXPLORE RURAL IBIZA

Ibiza may be famous for its stunning beaches and intoxicating nightclubs. Still, there is a whole other side to this Spanish island you may not be familiar with. Rugged coastal walking paths, picturesque pine woods, whitewashed farmsteads, eco-friendly restaurants and frescoes steeped in local history.

Ibiza's villages are famous for their beauty, simplicity and charm. One of our favourites is Sant Carles de Peralta. This sleepy village sits on the east coast along the main road north of Santa Eulària. Lined with almond, fig and carob trees, it is home to a whitewashed church dating back to 1785. Just outside the village, you will find the quirky Las Dalias market, where you can buy handmade products from soaps to jewellery. If visiting at the weekend, you will be able to try local delicacies while enjoying DJ beats.

One of the largest inland villages, Sant Miquel de Balansat, in the north of the island, has rich cultural patrimony and is overlooked by a shimmering white 14th-century church. Inside you will find frescoes dating back to the 17th century. The climb to the top may be tiring, but the views of the surrounding countryside from the village hilltop make it well worthwhile. Summer is the perfect time to visit Sant Miquel de Balansat, as every Thursday from June to September; there's traditional island dancing on the village's pretty patio. Towering over this quiet hamlet is a brilliant white 18th-century fortress, built when attacks by Moorish pirates were the scourge of the island.

There are plenty of ways to travel through the Ibizan countryside. Take to the backroads on a classic Vespa and see what else Ibiza has to offer. There is a northern route, where the scenery is more rugged, and a southern route, where will you pass gorgeous beaches and quiet coves. There will be plenty of places for you to stop along the way as the pace is far more gentle. In these more rural parts of the island, away from the resorts, the roads are quiet, and you will see an entirely different part of Ibiza, a world far away from the glitz and glamour of the coast.

If you want a different perspective of the island, why not take to the skies. Drift over the island in a hot air-air balloon as the soft light of dawn shines over the island to get a bird's-eye view of the turquoise coves, cliffs, white villages and rocky islets. From the skies, you'll see the whole of Ibiza and the hills and beaches of Formentera. On especially clear days, the view stretches to the south of Mallorca and the edge of the Spanish mainland. Once you have returned to earth, you will be greeted with a glass of Cava, a traditional Spanish breakfast, and a certificate to commemorate your flight.

PARTY UP A STORM

Every summer, hoards of partygoers descend to the island to hit the dance floor in some of the world's biggest and most famous clubs. This is the island that takes clubbing seriously, with world-renowned names like Pacha, Sankeys and Ibiza Rocks signing up superstar DJs for unforgettable parties that rage on until the break of dawn. Despite growing competition, Ibiza remains the best holiday destination for clubbing, with iconic haunts like Amnesia, Pacha and Privilege to the already legendary Ushuaïa and Hï.

Take the party out to sea aboard one of the many party cruises. While boat parties can be found at the various islands around Europe, none have the Mediterranean sea, an up-for-it young crowd, and a crop of internationally renowned DJs at their disposal quite like Ibiza does. Ibiza's climate lends itself to daytime partying, so whether you're travelling solo or part of a larger group, boat parties are the ideal way to meet like-minded people of a similar age and taste. And let's not mince our words here; for singletons, boat parties are a great place to get your flirt on with everyone aboard in a relaxed, feel-good mood and up for a great time. For those who are coupled up and lucky enough to be holidaying with their partner, there are more romantic cruises that allow you to bathe in the sunshine and enjoy the sunsets. The most famous party cruise in Ibiza has to be Pukka Up. Everyone who boards raves about the atmospheric sunset-filled time of your life. You get a whole lot of bang for your buck with complimentary admission to O Beach the day after. So, if you love to party, meet new people and enjoy open-air activities, a boat party in Ibiza is something you definitely shouldn't miss.

WHAT TO EAT

Ibizan cuisine has slowly begun to make its mark in the culinary world. Since travelers from all over the globe often frequent this tourist island, a delightful gastronomic culture has developed in the past few years, mainly by using fresh, local ingredients. Here are among the best recipes you can find in Ibiza.

SOFRIT PAGES

This traditional Balearic stew is a hearty mixture of meats like chicken, lamb, and the Ibizan sausages sobrassada and botifarra thrown together with vegetables like potatoes, peppers, and artichokes. While Ibizan cuisine revolves around its seafood specialties, this meat dish is served only on special occasions. However, sofrit pagés are available on almost every restaurant menu that serves traditional Ibizan cuisine.

BALEARIC SAUSAGES SOBRASSADA AND BOTIFARRA

Sausages native to the Balearic Islands are typically mixed in with other dishes or eaten on their own as an appetizer. Sobrassada, the national sausage of the islands, is made from ground pork, paprika and other spices. Botifarra is an ancient recipe, an Ibizan version of blood sausage with spices.

PAELLAS DE MARISCO

Each region of Spain has its own version of paella, and the seafood ingredients of this paella come fresh from the bounty of the sea surrounding the island of Ibiza. We suggest you visit Cala Es Xarcu, a restaurant run by a husband and wife team native to the islands and renowned for its seafood paella.

ZARZUELA

Another popular traditional Ibizan dish is zarzuela de mariscos, an Ibizan seafood stew made from a mixture of shellfish like mussels, crabs, scallops, and prawns, with squid and various types of fish. Zarzuela is usually cooked in a saffron-flavoured stock, traditionally mixed with lemon juice and bay leaf. Eating zarzuela will evoke a symphony of flavours mixed together in one delightful dish.

FLAONS

Flaons are filled pastries that are usually circular or semi-circular in shape. The fillings vary according to different regions of Spain they come but, but they can be local sheep or goat cottage cheese and ground almonds, or pumpkin jam and honey. Due to its extensive use of cheese, it is usually described as an Ibizan version of a cheesecake.

GREIXONERA

Greixonera is another traditional Ibizan dessert akin to a bread pudding. It is made from leftover pastries or bread, such as ensaimada. The cake is often flavoured with cinnamon or lemon zest, and it is traditionally served bottom-side-up, and comes dusted with ground cinnamon.

WHERE TO STAY

SIX SENSES IBIZA

Nestled away among the rocks of the much-loved bohemian north of the island, Six Senses Ibiza is an oasis for luxe-conscious travellers. Blink, and you could easily miss this hotel as it has been considerately designed to blend into its lush surroundings. Having received international recognition for its eco-friendly architecture and design, a stay here is good for the soul in more ways than one. It is also the first European outpost for celebrity chef Eyal Shani who'll work his (mostly) plant-based magic in one of the hotel's four restaurants. Then, there's the sublime Six Senses Spa which offers a raft of radical treatments. But don't expect to be entirely virtuous during your stay – when evening falls, you can take in the mesmerising sunset views with a cocktail in hand at the Beach Caves, the hotel's hip-shaking live music venue.

7PINES

This sprawling five-star resort on Ibiza's west coast opened to grand fanfare - and with great reason. Seven Pines, sandwiched between pine forest on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, is perfectly placed for admiring views of the rocky island of Es Vedrà and, of course, that famous Ibiza sunset. Seven Pines, more like a small Ibicenco village than a hotel, is a series of individual suites dotted around a vast clifftop and interspersed with residential properties. There are lots of communal areas in which to hang out, whether it's by the pool, bar, restaurant or spa – enough to mean you never have to actually leave the resort. However, Ibiza has much to offer, so you should at least try and get out there.

IBIZA GRAN HOTEL

The Ibiza Gran Hotel is perfectly located for visitors to stay in the swing of things but just far away enough from the madness and noise to relax. Despite being close to the party hot spots, a cool, calm place of retreat. The owners, the Santandreu hotelier family, call it an 'Art Hotel', an accurate description with artworks by artists including Fernando Botero and Antoni Llena. The sloping building has an air of an ocean liner, an impression that is heightened by the view across the harbour to Ibiza's old town on the hill opposite. The Casino de Ibiza, in the same complex and also owned by the Santandreus, has been open for 35 years and has become a real institution on the island.
